Metro Detroit DSA extends a HUGE congratulations to Donavan McKinney for not only winning his primary, but for also unseating incumbent Shri Thanedar! Metro Detroit DSA expelled Shri in 2023, and now in 2026 we took his seat in Congress!

Donavan's a democratic socialist who deeply cares about the working class and his constituents, and is the representative that District 13 truly needs. He will work alongside Rashida Tlaib to stand up to corporations and fascists, and will fight to improve the lives of those in his district and in Michigan.

Donavan had a winning socialist vision from the beginning, but in just a couple of short months the efforts from Metro Detroit DSA volunteers were able to push Donavan over the finish line and push Thanedar out.

We want to give a HUGE congratulations to our friend, comrade, and now State Representative-Elect Chris Gilmer-Hill on his win against an incumbent Democrat!

Chris truly cares about making people’s lives better, which is why he was always out in his community knocking on doors and having conversations with the voters in his district about the real issues that matter to them. As a candidate that didn’t take any money from corporations, District 8 recognized that Chris truly cares about people and will work for them by standing up to companies like DTE.

We wish Chris the best in his new journey as State Representative and are beyond thrilled to have another socialist in the Michigan House of Representatives.

Tomorrow is Michigan's Aug. 4 primary election day, and our efforts to engage voters and get people out to the polls are still going strong. However, we need your help.

The establishment does not want our democratic socialist candidates to win because they know that they will work for the people and hold corporations accountable instead of being another mouthpiece for the wealthy.

We deserve better representatives and we don't have to settle for the status quo.

It's less than a week until our Aug. 4 primary, and the Wayne County transit millage is on the ballot.

Listen to two of our Metro Detroit DSA comrades as they discuss public transportation, how public transit could disappear in Wayne County if the millage isn't passed, and how that would affect the lives of residents who depend on public transit for their day to day.

Vote YES by August 4 for better transportation!
