Nearly 200 years of history. ⚖️
The story of the Third Judicial Circuit includes Detroit's Mayor's Court, established in 1824, and Detroit Recorder's Court, which was formally created as a separate court in 1857.
In 1997, Detroit Recorder's Court was abolished and merged into the Third Judicial Circuit of Michigan, bringing its criminal jurisdiction into the Circuit Court.
Today, the Third Circuit serves Wayne County as Michigan's largest circuit court.
Nearly two centuries later, the mission remains the same: providing accessible and equal justice to the community.
