⛈️ DETROIT COMMUNITY STORM SAFETY ALERT ⛈️

Detroit has just experienced severe thunderstorms, high winds, and reports of possible tornado activity. As our neighborhoods assess the impact, please put safety first.

⚠️ Be especially cautious around downed power lines, fallen trees, standing water, and storm debris. Never approach or touch a downed wire — and remember that a wire does not have to spark or move to be dangerous.

🏠 Check on your family, neighbors, and especially seniors, individuals with disabilities, and residents who may be without power.

📌 Please review and share the attached flyer for important information on what to do if you encounter a downed power line and other storm-related safety precautions.

Your safety and the safety of our community comes first. Stay alert, stay informed, and look out for one another.

We’re so happy to be in community with Walker-Miller Energy Services and Enterprise Community Partners and connect with other organizations and partners working to create stronger, more sustainable communities across Detroit

🚨Did a recent power outage spoil your SNAP groceries? You may be able to replace the value of the food you lost.

If SNAP-purchased groceries spoiled because of a power outage lasting 4 hours or more or storm damage, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) may replace your lost benefits, up to one month's allotment.

But don't wait, you must apply within 10 days of the loss.

Here's what you'll need:
💚Proof of your power outage from your utility provider (such as DTE Energy)
💚 Complete the Food Replacement Affidavit (DHS-601) through your MI Bridges account or your local MDHHS office
💚Report your food loss by calling MDHHS at (844) 464-3447

For more information, visit your local MDHHS office or log in to your MI Bridges account.
