Join us Friday, September 11 at 1:00 p.m. for The Stories We Tell featuring "Loon Point", a special presentation with Carrie Classon.

Classon is a nationally syndicated columnist of "The Postscript" (featured in over 100 newspapers weekly) and author of the breakout northern Minnesota novel, "Loon Point." In this engaging theatrical presentation, Carrie explores how stories bring meaning to our lives and how the tales we tell can transform us in unexpected ways. Following the presentation, Carrie will host an open Q&A to answer your questions about writing, publishing, and the art of storytelling.

Please Note: Books will not be available for purchase at the event.

This program is offered free of charge thanks in part to funding from the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.

We're thrilled to share that construction updates have begun at the Detroit Lakes Public Library! Updates will occur over the course of the next few months, both inside and outside of the building.

Updates to the building have been in the works for several years and this fall’s project will include replacement of the library's roof, the restoration of the historic building's terracotta frieze panels, and remodeling of the library's lower level restroom, elevator, and the staff break room for ADA accessibility standards compliance.

We'll share updates along the way, but today, the Lake Agassiz Regional Library would like to thank the many entities that are working together to make this dream a reality and which provide ongoing support for the Detroit Lakes Public Library.

✨The City of Detroit Lakes, which is matching a $749,999 grant from the Minnesota Department of Education to help fund renovation projects at the library.
✨ The Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) for the agency’s oversight of the preservation project.

✨The Carnegie Corporation of New York, which bequeathed a $10,000 gift to Lake Agassiz Regional Library as part of Carnegie Libraries 250. Thanks in part to the advocacy of the Detroit Lakes Library Club, which has supported the library since 1907, the Detroit Lakes Public Library received a Carnegie gift in 1911, opening its doors in 1913. Lake Agassiz Regional Library continues to operate in the historic building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, to this day.

✨The Detroit Lakes Library Foundation for their support of the library’s programs, services and resources, as well as supporting improvement projects throughout the library’s history.

✨ Bristlin Construction and Widseth Architecture Firm

Stay tuned! We'll bring you all along for the ride as construction progresses.
