It was a beautiful day to make 120 vertical oyster gardens! These gardens can house hundreds of oysters, plus provide habitat for small fish and other organisms. A single oyster can filter up to 50 gallons per day. Thanks to Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance Estuary Program for providing all the supplies!

Destin Pickleball is out in force today enjoying the new City courts. For those that don't know, it's open play and located next to our Annex (which is at 4100 Indian Bayou Trail).

The City and Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance held our last Vertical Oyster Garden workshop in April, and Anne Nuffer Hinze was one of the participants. Check out how much her garden has grown in just that little time! We'll have another workshop this Saturday, Sept 12th at 1 p.m. at Captain Royal Melvin Heritage Park. All supplies will be provided for free. Parking at the City's Marler Parking lot will also be free for workshop participants (you'll be able to park there for free from 12:30-2:30 p.m.). Stop by, put together your own vertical oyster garden, and help keep our waterways healthy!

Emerald Coast Entertainment Group is holding the 2nd Annual Mayor's Charity Gala on October 16th with proceeds benefiting three local organizations: The Honor Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast, and the Destin Parks Foundation. Mayor Bobby Wagner will kick off the event and Bernard Johnson and Shane Moody will co-host. Dewey Destin and Mark Wilson will be receiving awards.
