Angel Schauer is an invaluable member of the Emerald Coast Food Rescue family, and we are thrilled and proud to announce that yesterday she was celebrated as a 2026 Women of Honor by the Okaloosa County Commission on the Status of Women. In 2019 the non-profit foundation was launched to fund activities to support the needs of women and children in our community.
Angel may be her nickname, but it suits her perfectly. As I am sure anyone who has ever met her would agree-both her reputation and demeanor reflect a heavenly nature. She has an exceptionally generous heart, and each act of service she offers is accompanied by her bright, contagious smile.
Although not from here originally, as a longtime resident of Fort Walton Beach, Angela Schauer, has been making a meaningful impact since she moved to our area. She worked as the Administrative Assistant for the Executive Director for the American Cancer Society from 1997 to 2006. In 2002 she was named Okaloosa Chapter International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) “Member of the Year”. After that, she was a Health Administrative Assistant at Simerly-Ayers Insurance Group, Ft. Walton Beach, FL for over a decade.
Since 2024, Angel has been Administrative Coordinator for Emerald Coast Food Rescue. Her role is crucial to the operation in bridging the gap between food surplus and local hunger in Okaloosa and Walton Counties. Throughout the years she's been involved in countless volunteer efforts, including United Methodist Children’s Home, Children in Crisis, Pet Partner Therapy Team, and Stage Crafters Community Theatre, just to name a few. Currently, she is assisting United Way review grant applications for local nonprofit organizations.
She and her husband, Jerry, are active members of The Gathering Church, where she also connects with opportunities to serve our community, such as their holiday food distribution in December 2025. She is a skilled crafts(wo)man and is an active member of the Silver Threads and Flying Needle Quilt Guilds. The beautiful quilts and detailed embroidery pieces that she creates are more often than not donated or given to others as gifts. Her devotion to humanitarian efforts and dynamic areas of service have proven to be continually impactful in our community. Angel's hard work and heart of gracious giving qualify her as a Woman of Honor.
We love you, Angel!
