Today, January 12, 2025, members of VFW Post 1534, Chapter 519 ALR Palm Springs California, American Legion Post 519, American Legion Post 519 Auxiliary, and Roger (Shea's Veterans Center and Community Taskforce onsite manager) came together to orchestrate a plan and start the center's renovations for its resident veterans. Danielle Pantanella (Post 519 Auxiliary President) has some amazing ideas and surprises that will benefit the center and it's residents greatly. While Glasshouse Painting is coming through with their professional painting services to spray the interior of the building. Landscaping and other renovations will be done by VFW Post 1534 and American Legion Post 519 and their designated groups. While there will be plenty of prepping to be done, the main days for this renovation will be on February 15th and 16th. So if you'd like to volunteer or contribute in any way, please reach out.

As part of the American Legion's pillars, specifically falling under the "Americanism" pillar, which emphasizes devotion to law and order, upholding patriotic values, and raising responsible citizens, Chapter 519 ALR Palm Springs California will be hosting a fundraising spaghetti dinner for the family of Deputy Timothy Corlew from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department motor team. Deputy Corlew was tragically killed in an onduty accident on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. The Spaghetti dinner will be on Monday, January 27, 2025, from 5 to 7 PM at the American Legion located at 400 N. Belardo Rd. in Palm Springs, Ca. The cost is $15. All proceeds will be donated to Deputy Corlew’s wife and
children. Any and all contributions are greatly appreciated. There will also be a check presentation from VFW Post 1534 and other American Legion organizations, as they are making donations to the family as well.

Tonight I attended Word of Life Fellowship Center Bible Study. It's crazy how God will connect with you through every sermon, leaving you walking out of the church with faith and hope. I also had the honor of presenting a small charitable donation to the church on behalf of VFW Post 1534 Joseph L Stone to help assist with their community bbq that will be at Wardman Park on Sept. 28th from 10am to 2pm. So come on out and meet your local community while enjoying some delicious bbq.

This morning VFW Post 1534 received a charitable donation from our local Stater Bros. in recognition of our work with veterans and the community. This was truly an honor for VFW Post 1534, especially during a time of transition. We look forward to taking a portion of this charitable donation and putting it back into the DHS community; as 2 local non-profit organizations have already been brought up. VFW Post 1534 is still very much alive. We are a VFW Post of action and will continue to serve our veterans, their families, and our community to the best of our abilities.

Another amazing community event with Word of Life-The Bridge to Better and the City of Desert Hot Springs as they conducted their 1 year anniversary for the Desert Hot Springs Free Mobile Health Clinic. We had VFW Post 1534 handing out hygiene kits provided by the American Red Cross and dog food, Overflow 9:12 providing a mobile shower, DPMG Health providing free medical exams, County of Riverside Social Services signing individuals up for Cal Fresh and Medical, and Word of Life Fellowship Center providing clothing and shoes to those in need. This is an amazing event involving organizations within our community giving back to our community. The next one will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19th. If you know of anyone that needs assistance, please send them to this location. It's on the corner of Hacienda and Mesquite from 8am to 11am.

VFW Post 1534 just received notice that our local Desert Hot Springs Stater Bros. has chosen us to be the recipient of a charitable donation in recognition of our work with veterans and local community. If you are a Post member, Auxiliary member, or supporter of Post 1534, the check presentation with be next Wednesday, August 21st, at 10am at our local Stater Bros. It's truly an honor to be recognized at such a level. Also, tomorrow is our cities Free Mobile Health Clinic, if you are available to assist handing out hygiene kits and other things, please see the attached flyer as Post 1534 will be back in action along side the City Desert Hot Springs and Bridge to Better-Word of Life Fellowship.

Tonight at our monthly meeting, VFW Post 1534 was presented with a check from the Cathedral City Evening Rotary for our efforts and contributions with the 22K Invisible Wounds Walk. Thank you Angel Herrera, Sunshine Herrera, and all of the Evening Rotary for collaborating with us in support of such a devastating issue our veteran community deals with daily. Looking forward to a bigger, better, and more informative event next year. Also, thank you to Jameson Walker and Dillon's Burgers & Beers (best burgers in town) for opening your doors for us to have our meeting during our transitional period; as we wait to partner with the City of Desert Hot Springs at the new upcoming Vet Center.

So everyone is aware, VFW Post 1534 is still active. Although, we are no longer at the 1 Clubhouse Dr. location in the B Bar H Ranch area. We are currently talking with the City of Desert Hot Springs to be apart of and run the upcoming DHS Veteran Center. As more develops, information will be put out. Thank you for your patience!!!

Starting June 1st, VFW Post 1534's canteen will be closed for the summer months. This is due to season ending and business slowing down. Our last event will be on Memorial Day. We will start off by attending the City of Desert Hot Springs service at Veterans Park at 9am. Following that we will start registration for our Memorial Day Blackjack Run at VFW Post 1534 where we will hold a ceremony and bbq upon everyone's return. So please come support the City of Desert Hot Springs, VFW Post 1534, our veterans, and our community as we remember those that served and paid the ultimate sacrifice.
