Wrapping up another week of legislative session, I was happy to meet with many groups to discuss some of the most important issues and topics facing Illinois today.

• I first met with advocates from Equality Illinois this week, to discuss initiatives that elevate the voices of our LGBTQ+ community and tackle any systemic challenges that are in the way of equality.

• I stopped by the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and the Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice pop-up at the Capital, where we shared a treat, and discussed ways in which we can support those awaiting trial, and ensure our pretrial system is equitable.

• I met with wonderful directors and staff from the Early Childhood Alliance of Niles Township. They’re a collaboration of over 45 child-care providers, home visiting programs and more. They work hard to increase access to programming and support professional development opportunities for early childhood educators. They do an amazing job supporting children in the 28th District!

• The work done by the Illinois Lyme Association and the Illinois Extension on Tick Prevention is so important to protecting the health of Illinoisans. In 2023, I passed legislation to raise awareness on Lyme Disease. Thank you for all your help and everything you do to spread safety to our residents

Life decisions like loan approvals, job screenings or insurance rates should never be influenced by consumer data that is collected without their approval. Today I was proud to advanced Senate Bill 340 through the Senate, which would provide comprehensive data privacy protections for consumers. This measure would prohibit consumers' sensitive data from being collected, processed or sold to third parties and give an option for consumers to opt out of any additional data being collected by private companies.

This week in Springfield was packed with work on legislation, and visits from friends from around the district and Illinois.

- I started the week off with a visit from nurses from Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. It was great to see their advocacy for patients and themselves extend to Springfield and public policy. I will always prioritize our essential service providers!

- Members from the Illinois Health and Hospital Association and Ascension Illinois stopped by to talk about how we can support safety net hospitals, community hospitals and all medical service providers across the state.

- I met with Illinois Staffing Services Association, who lead the state in professional development. Illinois has a well-trained, skilled workforce and they play a strong role in making that possible!

- I stopped by to see Trinity Services Inc., one of the largest social service organizations in Illinois who serve thousands of people with disabilities and mental health needs by creating a home away from home for those they serve. I am grateful to have one of their locations supporting the 28th District!

- Road safety improvement is always an important topic we discuss in Springfield. ABATE of Illinois stopped in to explain how we can maintain a safe environment for motorcyclists and all motorists around the state.

- Last, but not least, I stopped by Sysco’s Legislative Lunch to try the delicious Murphy Wrap! Sysco is a key food distributor for restaurants across Illinois and we are lucky to have them as part of our community in 28th District.

Consumers have a right to transparency around the use of their personal data. Today, I passed Senate Bill 340 through the Senate Executive Committee, which would prohibit the sale of a consumer’s most sensitive data, and give various additional rights for consumers in regards to their data.
