We are looking for the owners of this little pup who was found in the area of White Street and Stockton Avenue. They are sporting a tan plaid collar and a fashionable doggie diaper. The pup will be brought to Golf Rose Animal Services.

Police Alert

Des Plaines Police are investigating an incident that occurred on Touhy Avenue between Des Plaines River Road and Scott Street.

As a result, the roadway has been shut down. Please avoid the area if traveling in Des Plaines and seek an alternate route to avoid delays.

At this time, there is no threat to the public.

Looking back at a great night of community connection at National Night Out, an event that brings residents and first responders together for conversation and connection.

With first responders from the real world coming together with the community, it seemed fitting to talk about some of the fictional ones we’ve come to know and love.

In this edition of Curbside Chatter, attendees were asked, “If you could spend a day with any fictional first responder, who would it be?” Check out the video to hear which movie and TV heroes everyone chose. Thanks to everyone who shared their pick!

A long, long, long.....long, time ago on a farm far far away, a young Trent Beier set out into the big City world in hopes of becoming a police officer. Trent just could not resist the town motto, City of Destiny, any longer and decided Des Plaines was the place for him.

Officer Trent Beier was hired in August of 2000 and attended the Illinois State Police Academy where he graduated in December of that same year. Shortly after joining the force, Trent developed a knack for tactics and joined the Departments Tactical Response Team. During his time on the team, Trent took positions on both the Entry Team and the Sniper Team. His accomplishments also include being a Juvenile Officer, a Range Officer, an Armorer, a Training Officer, a Bike Officer and one of his personal favorites: a Field Training Officer where he was MOST famous for locking and unlocking the doors when he thought it was too quiet.

Trent reached a series of accomplishments and awards that indicate his professionalism and dedication of service to the city by means of several Life Saving Awards, Department Commendations, and Honorable Mentions. But one overwhelmingly common theme to this tough cookie, is his kindness and compassion to his coworkers and to the City of Des Plaines' residents.

Trent received an abundance of Letters of Appreciation from citizens all stating how kind, supportive, and helpful he was when they needed him most. One of the most noteworthy was in May of 2016 when a father came into the station to personally thank Tretn for saving the life of his then two-week old child in December of 2015 who had been choking. Trent acted selflessly, professionally, and quickly which allowed him to stay calm under pressure and save the child's life while simultaneously being a source of comfort for the family.

Trent has received multiple shout outs on our Department page for his equal kindness to our animal friends by saving some baby ducklings in a sewer drain in 2022. Later in 2023, a kind citizen posted about Trent and another officer whose quick action along with their calm demeanors assisted the Fire Department during a medical emergency.

Ofc. Trent Beier is truly one of a kind. Many, many a smile and a laugh was had because of him, and we will continue to think back on his career and be thankful for the time we had with him. Ofc. Trent Beier, after 26 years with the Des Plaines Police Department and on behalf of its residents, we sincerely thank you for your service, your kindness, and for sharing this part of your life with us.

We wish you absolutely nothing but the best in your retirement as you enjoy the great outdoors and some much-needed family time.

Ofc. Trent Beier, 10-42 good friend. You will be missed.

This little prince was found in the 700 Block of Cordial Drive and turned over to our officers. He was found with no collar and does not have a chip. He will be brought to Golf Rose Animal Services.

The Des Plaines Police Department will host an open house for its newly remodeled police station at the Municipal Complex on Tuesday, August 18. Residents are invited to visit the Police Department at 1418 Miner Street between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. for a guided tour.

Tours will be conducted approximately every 15 minutes. Free parking will be available in the Civic Center Parking Garage. See you then!

Des Plaines Man Charged with Two Counts of First-Degree Murder

DES PLAINES, Illinois – Following a comprehensive, yearlong investigation involving extensive forensic analysis and coordination with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Des Plaines Police Department announces that the following individual has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder:

- Alexander J. Hoegner, 36-year-old male from Des Plaines, Illinois.

On July 23, 2025, Des Plaines Police officers responded to 994 North Avenue for a report of a deceased male inside a white Dodge Durango. Officers arrived and located a male subject, identified as Joseph Kalamaris, a 33-year-old male from Rosemont, slumped over in the front passenger seat with a gunshot wound through his back. Several spent cartridge casings were recovered from inside the vehicle. The vehicle was processed for evidence, which was submitted to the Northeastern Illinois Regional Crime Laboratory for analysis.

During the investigation, Des Plaines Police investigators learned that Hoegner, Kalamaris, and a third subject were driving in the Dodge Durango. Kalamaris was seated in the front passenger seat, Hoegner was seated directly behind him, and the third subject was driving. While traveling in Des Plaines, Hoegner discharged a fi***rm, fatally striking Kalamaris. The driver pulled over in the 500 block of south Bender Road, exited the vehicle and fled the scene. Hoegner then moved into the driver’s seat, drove the vehicle to North Avenue, abandoned the vehicle, leaving the deceased victim in the passenger seat. DNA evidence was recovered from both the vehicle and a recovered G***k 9mm fully automatic fi***rm. Laboratory analysis identified DNA on the fi***rm that was consistent with Hoegner’s DNA profile. Fi****ms analysis also determined that the spent cartridge casings recovered from inside the vehicle were discharged from the recovered fi***rm.

On August 12, 2026, Alexander Hoegner was taken into custody at a gas station in Huntley, Illinois. He is scheduled to appear before a judge today at 1:30 p.m. at the Skokie Courthouse.

A bit humid for a walk but nonetheless, this brave girl went for a stroll and is now lost. She was found at River Road and Oakton Street.

If you know who she belongs to please call our non-emergency number at 847-391-5400. If we are unable to find the owner she will be brought to Golf Rose Animal Services.
