National Night Out brings residents and first responders together for an opportunity to connect and get to know one another outside of everyday calls and responsibilities. This year, community members had the chance to meet the people behind the badge in the Des Plaines Police Department while also answering a few important questions.

We asked several attendees: If you could spend a day with any fictional first responder, who would it be?

From TV favorites to big-screen heroes, see what residents had to say in this edition of Curbside Chatter.

From Friendship Park to Metropolitan Square and Library Plaza, it was a great summer of good food and community events across Des Plaines. We’re already looking forward to doing it all again next year 🍕🍔🍟

It’s back-to-school season in Des Plaines! As students head back to the classroom and families settle into new routines, we wish our students, teachers, school staff, and families an exciting school year.

With more students out and about on their way to and from school, let’s all do our part to help keep our community safe.

Drivers
- Slow down in school zones.
- Stay alert for students walking and biking.
- Always stop for school buses when their red lights are flashing.

Students
- At the bus stop, stand back from the curb.
- Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop.
- Always look both ways before crossing the street.

Here’s to a safe and successful school year, Des Plaines.
