The purpose of this page is to provide news and general information about the Iowa Department of Public Safety to the public. The mission of Iowa DPS is to serve the people of Iowa by providing public safety services with leadership, integrity, and professionalism. REMINDER: This page is NOT an emergency response page. If you have an emergency, please call 911. The Iowa Department of Public Safety is under the leadership of the Commissioner of the Department, who is appointed by the Governor of the State of Iowa. The Office of the Commissioner houses the Commissioner, the Executive Officer to the Commissioner, the Executive Secretary, the Professional Standards Bureau, the Strategic Communications Bureau, Legal Counsel, and the Policy Advisor/Legislative Liaison. DPS is made up of seven divisions: Iowa State Patrol, Administrative Services Division, Division of Criminal Investigation, Division of Intelligence & Fusion Center, Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Professional Development & Support Services, and the State Fire Marshal Division. DPS also houses the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau, Governor's School Safety Bureau, Program Services Bureau, Finance Bureau, and the Technology Solutions Bureau. The Division of Criminal Investigation oversees the Cyber Crime Bureau, Field Operations Bureau (which includes the Major Crime Unit), Support Operations Bureau (which includes the Iowa S*x Offender Registry), Special Enforcement Operations Bureau, and the Missing Person Information Clearinghouse. The Division of Intelligence & Fusion Center oversees the Intelligence Operations Bureau, the Homeland Security and Analysis Bureau, and the Iowa Office To Combat Human Trafficking. The State Fire Marshal Division oversees the Arson and Explosives Bureau and Fire Service Training Bureau. This site does not accept request for public information under Iowa Open Records Statutes. Instead, please use our resources and guidelines at the bottom of the page.
