What a beautiful day for the Grand Opening of the Redondo Pier! ๐ŸŽ‰

Today, Mayor Yoshiko Grace Matsui, Deputy Mayor Gene Achziger and members of the City Council members were joined by Senator Claire Wilson, Representative Jamila Taylor, former mayors Traci Buxton and Matt Mahoney, City Manager Katherine Caffrey and many other local leaders and community members to celebrate this exciting milestone.

A special thank you to South King Fire for their incredible water salute honoring the reopening and helping make the occasion even more memorable.

The Redondo Pier has long been a treasured gathering place, and we are thrilled to welcome residents and visitors back to enjoy all that this iconic waterfront destination has to offer.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this day possible. Hereโ€™s to the next chapter for the Redondo Pier! ๐ŸŒŠโš“๏ธ

At tonight's City Council meeting, the Des Moines City Council approved proclamations recognizing June as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month and June 19 as Juneteenth.

Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions, diversity, and resilience of LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities, while reaffirming our commitment to fostering a community where everyone is treated with dignity, respect, and belonging.

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and honors the strength, perseverance, and achievements of Black Americans. It serves as a reminder of our nation's continued journey toward freedom, equality, and justice for all.

The City of Des Moines values the unique perspectives and experiences that strengthen our community and remains committed to creating a welcoming environment where everyone who lives, works, and visits here feels seen, respected, and valued.

Today, we celebrated the completion of the L-M-N Dock Replacement Project with a ribbon cutting at the Des Moines Marina! โš“โœ‚๏ธ

This project represents a significant investment in the future of our Marinaโ€”enhancing safety, accessibility, and the overall experience for the thousands of boaters and visitors who enjoy this special place each year.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this project possible, including the Des Moines City Council, our Marina staff, project partners, contractors, and the many community members who supported this important investment in our waterfront.

The new docks are now open and we invite you to stop by the Marina, take a stroll along the waterfront, and see the improvements for yourself!

๐ŸŽ‰ Congratulations to Des Moines City Attorney Tim George!

Some of the most important work in local government happens behind the scenesโ€”and few people exemplify that better than our City Attorney, Tim George.

We're thrilled to share that Tim has been selected as Highline College's 2026 Distinguished Alumnus! Through nearly two decades of public service, Tim has played a key role in many of the projects that help make Des Moines such a special place to live, work, and play.

This recognition is incredibly well deserved, and we couldn't be more proud. Please join us in congratulating Tim on this outstanding achievement! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ‘
