Sheriff Kevin Schneider is proud to announce the upcoming launch of I.G.N.I.T.E. — Inmate Growth Naturally and Intentionally Through Education at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

I.G.N.I.T.E. is a national initiative of the National Sheriffs’ Association designed to provide those incarcerated with education, workforce development, life skills, and other opportunities that support successful reentry and help reduce recidivism.

We’re excited to show you what I.G.N.I.T.E will look like right here in Polk County. More information to come!

Earlier tonight, Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 2900 block of NE 46th Avenue after receiving a report of a possible stabbing.

Deputies located one individual who was transported to a local hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.

Deputies spent the evening investigating the incident, gathering evidence and working to understand the events that led to the call. The scene has since been cleared, but deputies will continue their investigative work and follow up as additional information becomes available.

There is no known threat to the public. There are no further details to release at this time. Additional information will be provided when available.

Today, on National Police Woman Day, we recognize the dozens of women serving throughout the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the vital role they play. Their leadership, dedication and service make our Office and communities stronger. Thank you for all you do!

Today, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office joins our nation in remembering and honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the first responders who answered the call.

In remembrance, Polk County Dispatch observed a moment of silence with the public safety agencies we serve.

We invite you to watch and join us in honoring those we lost.

The Labor Day weekend may have been a holiday, but the work didn’t stop for Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Deputies responded to a road rage incident in the 8700 block of NE 27th Avenue where a suspect allegedly followed another driver home and fired a handgun into the air before leaving the area.

Deputies quickly located the suspect vehicle and took the suspect, John Morgan, into custody. John was charged with careless driving, intimidation with a dangerous weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.

Another gun off the street. Another example of our deputies working to keep Polk County safe.
