Mount Rainier Pool Mount Rainier Pool is an indoor facility. We are just south of the Mount Rainier High School campus. Welcome to the Mount Rainier Pool page.

Mount Rainier Pool is an indoor facility governed by the Des Moines Pool Metropolitan District. Some of the many programs we offer include Swim Lessons, Lap Swims, Water Exercise classes, as well as Public and Family Swims. We offer swimming lessons throughout the year for children and adults of all ages. Lap swims occur several times during the day for people with varying schedules and we have Pu

blic or Family swims at least once every day. Water Exercise classes are available mornings in deep and shallow water with an arthritic class in the afternoon and all are open to both adults and seniors. Looking for something fun and affordable to do with the family this Sunday? Come make a splash at Mount Rainier Pool!

💦 Open Swim: Sundays, 1–3 p.m.

💙 Youth (ages 3–17): $3
💙 Adults swimming with their child: just $2
💙 Children under 3: FREE!

Bring the kids, get in the water, and enjoy some family time together. Whether you’re swimming, splashing, or just having fun in the pool, everyone is welcome! 😄

Fall swim lesson registration starts next week at Mount Rainier Pool!

This fall, we’re offering Monday/Wednesday evening and Saturday morning lessons for swimmers from 6 months through adults.

⏰ REGISTRATION OPENS:

🥇 Current Students
Wednesday, September 9 at 4:30 p.m.

🥈 New Students — Des Moines & Normandy Park Residents
Friday, September 11 at 5:00 p.m.

🥉 New Students — Non-Residents
Friday, September 11 at 6:30 p.m.

⚠️ Swim lessons are in high demand! We strongly recommend preparing before registration opens:

✅ Review the Swim Lesson Handbook
✅ Set up or check your CivicRec account
✅ Review the exact class times
✅ Complete a swim evaluation if your new swimmer wants to register above a beginning level
✅ Be ready when your registration window opens

💦 DON’T FORGET THE WAITLIST!
If the class you want is full, please join the waitlist. Waitlists help us fill openings and determine where additional classes may be needed.

🌎 TRANSLATION AVAILABLE
Our website and registration portal offer translation options to make swim lesson information more accessible to families throughout our community.

Our goal is to continue building a gold-standard American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program with trained instructors, clear skill progression, water safety education, and expanded access for local families.

🎓 SWIM LESSON SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 4! 🏊‍♀️

Planning to register for upcoming swim lessons at Mount Rainier Pool? The Faith Callahan Scholarship Program can help make lessons more affordable for Des Moines and Normandy Park families.

💙 Scholarships cover 90% of program fees
🏠 Available to qualifying Des Moines and Normandy Park residents
🏊 Can be used for swim lessons, passes, water exercise and more
💰 Households may receive up to $1,000 per scholarship year

📅 Fall 2026 Swim Lesson Scholarship Deadline:
Friday, September 4

Scholarships for swim lessons must be approved before registration, so don’t wait until registration day to apply.

Already received a scholarship before September 1? All applicants must reapply for the new scholarship year.

Applications are typically reviewed within five business days and are subject to available funding.

Make the most of your Monday and Wednesday evenings at Mount Rainier Pool!

💦 Family Swim: 5:00–9:00 p.m.
📅 Mondays & Wednesdays through October 7

With fall swim lessons starting Monday, October 12, Family Swim will shift to 7:00–9:00 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Until then, you’ve got four full hours to splash, play, practice swimming, and enjoy time together in the pool.

And it’s an affordable family night out:
