Juneteenth gives us the opportunity to reflect on a more inclusive definition of freedom—one that recognizes the reality that freedom for Black Americans was delayed, and that injustice continues to echo through our systems, our institutions, and our health care.
Juneteenth is also a celebration of Black joy, culture, hope, and resilience—because joy in the face of intense pain is an act of resistance.
