Sealed bids are to start Tuesday, September 8, 2026, 8:00 A.M. and must be received by , September 22, 2026, at 4:00 P.M. at the Prairie County Sheriff's Office, 200 W. Courthouse Sq. Suite #101, Des Arc, AR 72040. All bids are to be turned in at the Prairie County Sheriff's Office, either to Prairie County Dispatch or Sheriff-Elect Jeffery Bokker.
Bids must include the bidder's full name, address, phone number, and the amount of the bid. Bid should be sealed in an envelope that clearly lists the vehicle being bid on. The successful bidder must pay for full amount before the title is transferred. No credit cards will be accepted.

🇺🇸REMEMBERING PRAIRIE COUNTY🇺🇸

SHERIFF ABEL SHUFORD REINHARDT

Today, we take a moment to remember and recognize a remarkable man who played an important role in the history of Prairie County and the Prairie County Sheriff’s Office—Sheriff Abel Shuford Reinhardt.
Abel Shuford Reinhardt served the citizens of Prairie County as Sheriff during three different periods:
● 1878–1888
● 1890–1894
● 1900–1904
Serving Prairie County for approximately 20 years, Sheriff Reinhardt dedicated a significant portion of his life to serving and protecting the people of our county.
Sheriff Reinhardt was born on January 4, 1847. Historical records show that he came to Hickory Plains, Arkansas from Marshall County, Mississippi as a young boy at the age of 8.
Law enforcement during Sheriff Reinhardt's time was very different from what it is today. There were no patrol cars, radios, computers, or many of the modern tools and resources available to law enforcement today. The job depended heavily on determination, reputation, knowledge of the community, and the trust of the citizens.
To be elected to serve as Sheriff of Prairie County during three separate periods speaks volumes about the trust and confidence the citizens of Prairie County placed in Abel Shuford Reinhardt.
Sheriff Reinhardt passed away on June 9, 1935, at the age of 88. He is buried alongside his wife, Laura Juliet Harshaw Reinhardt, at Lakeside Cemetery in Des Arc, Arkansas.
The Prairie County Sheriff's Office would also like to extend a special thank-you to Anna Orsi, Sheriff Abel Shuford Reinhardt's great-great-granddaughter, for sharing these incredible photographs of her ancestor with us. These photographs provide a special connection to the history of our office and allow us to better remember and honor one of the men who served the citizens of Prairie County many years ago.
Today, the Prairie County Sheriff's Office continues the tradition of service established by the many sheriffs who came before us. We are proud to remember the history of this office and the individuals who helped build its legacy.
Thank you, Sheriff Abel Shuford Reinhardt, for your many years of service to the citizens of Prairie County. Your dedication and place in the history of Prairie County will not be forgotten.

Let’s Work Together to End Drunk Driving!

From August 19 through September 7, 2026, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be working alongside local law enforcement to deter drunk driving and prevent tragedies during the Labor Day holiday weekend. The message is clear: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

During the 2024 Labor Day holiday (6 p.m. August 30 - 5:59 a.m. September 3), there were 505 traffic crash fatalities nationwide. Of these 505 fatalities, 34% (170) involved a drunk driver. Seventy-seven percent of the impaired drivers killed had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .15 or higher. Among drivers between the ages of 18 and 34 who were killed in crashes over the Labor Day holiday in 2024, 40% of those drivers were drunk, with BACs of .08 or higher.

If a driver intends to drink during a Labor Day festivity, he or she should plan ahead for a safe ride home by securing a designated driver or calling a taxi or rideshare. They shouldn’t wait until after drinking to plan how to get somewhere. Impairment clouds a person’s judgment and endangers others on the road.

If a driver finds they are unable to drive, they should give their keys to a sober driver so that person can get them home safely. When a friend has been drinking and is considering driving, friends should be proactive — take away the keys and help them get a sober ride home. If anyone spots a drunk driver, contact local law enforcement.

Today’s counterfeit pills and other substances can look harmless, familiar, or even like candy, but they may contain fentanyl or other dangerous substances.

Talking with kids and college students isn’t about judgment—it’s about giving them the information they need to make informed choices and recognize when something could be dangerous.

Let’s make sure our young people know that asking questions, looking out for their friends, and reaching out for help are signs of strength—not weakness.
