CONGRATULATIONS to our very own Principal, Mrs. Carolynn Walsleben, for being named the recipient of the 2023 Mark Mann Excellence and Harmony Award!!

About the Award:
The award is designed to honor the highest qualities and most significant accomplishments of Dr. Mark Mann, former principal of Parkland Middle School, Montgomery County Public Schools. Dr. Mann was recognized throughout the system as an excellent school-based educator who dedicated himself to understanding and embracing the rich diversity of his school and community. He worked tirelessly to make everyone a vital part of school programs, activities and services.

A note from Mrs. Walsleben:
This is a great honor and I truly believe this is OUR award as a community! It will never be lost on me that the work we do each and every day is a staff, parent, and student effort, and each and every person in the Candlewood community makes Candlewood is what makes Candlewood special! I am so proud to be the Instructional Leader of such an amazing school community!

K-12 Student Poster Art Contest to Celebrate Asian American and Pacific
Islander Heritage Month 2023

The month of May is designated by law as Asian American and Pacific
Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month to commemorate the history of AAPIs since
their arrival in the United States in the mid-1800s, their challenges,
and their contributions to American society.

All K-12 Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students are invited to
submit artwork for a poster that reflects significant moments and/or
events in AAPI history and/or culture. The entries will be judged by
community art and art performance professionals.

First place ($100), second place ($75), third place ($50), and honorable
mention winners were selected for each of the lower elementary school
(K-2), higher elementary school (3-5), middle school (6-8), and high
school (9-12) categories.

Sadly, one of our Candlewood families lost their home to a fire yesterday. Since the news was released, the PTA has had numerous inquiries about how people can help. In these early days, the best support that the PTA could think of was financial support to address the initial aftermath of this tragedy.

If you are able, please consider donating to help the family. Any contribution, large or small, would be truly appreciated and put to good use. All funds will go directly to the family for their support.

Candlewood Kindergarten Enrollment Now Open!
