✅Yes, the air is more humid.
✅Yes, several spots across our state have seen rain.
✅Yes, we were lucky yesterday to see no new wildfires.
✅Yes, the burn ban is STILL IN EFFECT anyway.

Here are the FAQs we've been sharing about the SFM's updated burn ban on 8/25/23, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry's 8/25/23 burn ban pertaining to prescribed burning and Gov. John Bel Edwards' executive order from 8/25/23 regarding all agricultural burning.

🚫🔥❌BURN BAN FACTS❌🔥🚫

(1) DON'T BURN ANYTHING. These three words are clear and simple. All three ban orders issued on 8/25/23 read ALL OUTDOOR BURNING is prohibited with NO exceptions.
(2) Any activity that involves fire/flames outdoors is included in the burn ban. Any activity that could produce a spark or flame is highly discouraged.
(3) Outdoor cooking is not a citable offense, but if your cooking creates a fire that the fire department has to respond to, you will get a citation. It doesn't matter what your fuel source is (propane, pellets, charcoal, etc.), again, if it involves a flame at any point, don't do it.
(4) Mowing and yard work is not banned, however, it is preferred to avoid mowing and/or driving/operating hot machinery and/or any activity that could produce a spark on or near dry, brown, dead grass because of its flammability right now.

SUMMARY: If you have to ask, please just don't do it.

Lastly, if you see a fire, CALL 911 for the fire department to put the fire out!!

What is "right"? Being right is doing what you think is better for yourself and\or for the common good of everyone around you. To indicate what is right would be if you think your community would agree to what you do or are doing. THANK YOU!!! Other meanings and examples:

Never let children play with or carry lit candles. Give each child a flashlight to carry while trick-or-treating. Use a battery-operated candle or glow-stick in jack-o-lanterns.

Dried flowers, cornstalks, and crepe paper catch fire easily. Keep all decorations away from open flames and other heat sources like lightbulbs and heaters.

A student once asked Bruce Lee “You teach me fighting but you talk about peace. How do you reconcile the two?” To which Bruce Lee replied “It’s better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war.”

Tell me that doesn’t apply perfectly to the fire service. At least to me it screams relevance for us today. Maybe word the question a little differently and see if this sounds more familiar.

“Why are we training on fighting fire when we never have fires?”

“Why are we pulling lines, I know how to do that?”

“Do we have to train today it’s really cold/hot outside?”

And on and on….

Yes we train on fighting fire even though we don’t get a lot of fires so that we’re prepared when they do come. Yes we’re pulling lines because it is a skill that we need to stay sharp at. Yes we’re training today in the heat or the cold because emergencies don’t only happen when it’s 75 degrees and sunny.

When our war comes we have to be prepared and sitting around the firehouse making excuses as to why we shouldn’t do something that day isn’t going to prepare us for anything but failure.

Don’t be a gardener, be a warrior!
