[June 1, 2026 - 9:27 PM] A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of Kansas and Oklahoma until 4 AM CDT.

Thunderstorms across western Kansas will move into portions of central Kansas later this evening into tonight. Winds up to 70 mph and hail up to quarter size will be the main threats for areas generally along and west of I-135.

At nearly 3:50 PM this afternoon Derby Fire Department Engine 81, and Squad 81 B-shift responded to an outside gas leak in the 800 block of N Kokomo Ave.
Crews arrived on scene to find a gas service line damaged by construction, and Kansas Gas was requested.
A short time later, KGS arrived to mitigate the situation; there were no injuries.

The National EMS Memorial Service Moving Honors will begin its journey on Monday, June 1, at 0900 PDT in Redding, CA with REACH Air Medical. The ceremony will be held at the Shield Training Center located at 4300 Caterpillar Rd.

From Redding, the Moving Honors procession will travel to Reno, NV for a ceremony at the Lazy 5 Regional Park, 7100 Pyramid Way Sparks, NV at 3:00 pm PDT.

The following day, June 2, the team will be in Elko, NV for a ceremony at 4:00 pm PDT at the Elko Airport, 975 Terminal Way.

The NEMSMS Moving Honors will be on the road through the month of June, allowing those families, friends, colleagues and the public to have the chance to pay their respects to the 37 EMS and air medical honorees for 2026. We hope that those who are able to, will join the team to show those who have been left behind that the sacrifice their loved ones made will always be remembered.

For those agencies who attend and host the ceremonies along with those who line the roads and overpasses, please do not forget to send your photos and video clips to [email protected] so they can be considered for inclusion in the Moving Honors video that will be shown at the NEMSMS in Arlington, VA on 18 July.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is in effect for the core of Kansas until 10 PM Saturday. If you have family or friends in the highlighted area, give them a call and tell them to pay attention to changing weather conditions. The atmosphere is incredibly unstable right now.

Storm have fired up this afternoon, quickly becoming severe. All forms of severe weather are on the table including large hail, damaging winds, and a tornado cannot be ruled out. Please stay weather aware!

A severe thunderstorm watch will be issued shortly for much of central Kansas.

Any outdoor plans? Watch closely as storms will be capable of damaging winds and large hail. Heavy rainfall and frequent lightning are also hazards into the evening. A tornado cannot be ruled out.
