Don’t get caught on the side of the road with a dead battery, blown tire or an overheated engine.

Before the next scorcher hits, take 5 minutes and check these 3 things. ⤵️

Today marks the start of hurricane season. Now is a good time to make sure you're ready if a storm heads our way.

One of the easiest things you can do is sign up for Calcashout so you can receive emergency alerts and important updates during hurricanes and other emergencies.

Text CALCASHOUT to 78015 or visit calcashout.com to sign up.

A little preparation now can save a lot of stress later.

Major’s Notes: We are now in the first week of Hurricane season and everyone should start their planning. We do have some great news. We are in a El Nino season. El Nino is a climate phenomenon characterized by unusually warm surface temperatures in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. El Nino can reduce the frequency of hurricane which is good news. Th 2026 Atlantic Hurricane season is predicted to be below average with 8-14 Storms turning into around 3-6 hurricanes. However, it only takes one storm to ruin our day. This will probably be my last hurricane season as DeQuincy’s emergency manager as I am planning to move on to other things. Let’s all hope and pray that DeQuincy will get thru another season without a hurricane.

Major’s Notes; Another quiet weekend in the city. The DQPD is continuing to investigate the theft of rifles from a local store. Once again, the public is requested to assist in this case to get these weapons off the streets. DQPD Chief of Detectives Major Jerry Bell has taken the evidence, fingerprints, and items for DNA ,to the Calcasieu Parish Crime Lab and is waiting for those results. Along with a hammer, a Kobalt flashlight, there was an Addidas Stella McCartney duffle bag recovered at the scene dropped by the thieves. A photo of this bag was sent to the DQ news for publication. If anyone knows about this bag or loaned it to someone, please let the DQPD know. Again, thank you for any assistance in this matter. (Photo posted in comments

Major Jerry Bell’s Notes: Another quiet weekend in our city with no major crime to report. We are still getting some information about possible scam attempts. The security tip this week is warning signs of a possible scam. The big one is requests for information or bank account numbers. Next is requests for payment via wire transfers, bit coins or gift cards. The scammers may create a sense of urgency. They may also direct you not to tell anyone or stay on the phone with them until the transaction is complete. They may also threaten arrest if non-compliant. My advice is: if you think that you are being scammed, please report it to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office by calling 337-491-3700. They have a special fraud unit and if your scam involves bitcoin, they can possibly help you if you report it immediately. Ther are so many scams out there perpetrated mostly by foreign entities that it behooves one to be aware and “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!” Be safe/wise.
