DePue Fire Company No. 1

DePue Fire Company No. 1 On behalf of the the members of the DePue Fire Department, it is indeed an honor to welcome you to the page of the DePue Fire Department.

We are pleased that you have taken the opportunity to β€œlike” us and visit our page. The DePue Fire Department, as with other fire service organizations, was created by concerned citizens to protect the community from fires. The DePue Fire Department provides fire suppression, rescue and assist in emergency medical service to town residents. This includes medical calls, structure fires, vehicle acc

idents/fires, brush fires, other outdoor fires and any other type of fire that may occur in the town. The DePue Fire Department is responsible for sending an appropriate level of response to the type of medical/fire call that is reported. In the event that a fire is larger or more involved, additional resources would need to be requested from other fire agencies. The DePue Fire Department participates with a variety of other fire agencies in mutual aid agreements. These type of agreements are fairly common throughout the United States. All fire service providers recognize that it is very easy for a fire to become large enough that the local resources and personnel are unable to control the incident. For this reason, fire agencies enter in mutual aid agreements to help each other when situations dictate the need. We are a part of the M.A.B.A.S. #57 division. The DePue Fire Department previously responded to over 100 First Responder calls annually. As a small community we have very few fire calls. (And we like to keep it that way) We normally have 5-10 fire calls a year. These calls are normally small brush fires or an occasional structure fire. The DePue Fire Department has responded to fire reports in the community for over 100 years. While the equipment, personnel and other service requirements of the organization have changed over the years, the DePue Fire Department will continue to provide a level of fire protection that allows the community to live and work in an environment that is relatively free of the worry of fire and its life altering results. If you have any questions, please contact us at any time. We appreciate any and all support. If you are currently interested in joining our Department, please see a current member of the fire department or village clerk.

What a great day for training! Several local departments woke up nice and early this Saturday to work on extrication training! Valuable lessons were learned all around. Thanks to all who came! Special thanks to Spring Valley Bakery for providing breakfast and Marichuy’s Taqueria for lunch!!!

We will be hosting a multi agency training Saturday morning the 16th. Auto extrication is what the training is. Come take a peek at what we do!!! The road will be closed, so feel free to pull out a lawn chair and watch. See how the tools are used and what it takes to extricate people in an accident.

Severe weather and sirens. When Depue is listed in a possible tornado track and is warned, we initiate the tornado warning outdoor siren. The siren is activated by one of our firefighters which does not guarantee that the someone will be available to do so. As stated many times before, weather radios, weather apps, the national weather service out of the quad cities and the quad cities television stations are your best bets for staying informed. Now, when severe weather is being forecast, we in Bureau and Putnam counties have fantastic EMA'S (emergency management agencies) who activate their center and start the process of keeping the fire and other agencies in the counties aware of what is going on with ongoing updates. The majority of the counties weather spotters mobilize in order to scan the sky for rotations and to also report storm conditions and storm damage. When the tornado warning is issued and the siren is activated, do not ignore it. Take cover and do not go outside to "look" for that tornado. I have seen a lot of activity outside when the siren is activated. You are putting yourselves at risk by being outdoors. Also, the siren is meant to only be heard outside, thus the reason for the suggested ways to receive weather warnings and updates.

Thank you
