A milestone 75 years in the making!

Yesterday, the Denver City Council recognized Denver Fire Station 23 with a proclamation celebrating 75 years of service to the Southwest Denver community.

Members of the Station 23 crew, alongside Chief Desmond Fulton, proudly accepted the recognition on behalf of the generations of firefighters—past and present—who have served from Station 23 since September 1, 1951.

For 75 years, Station 23 has been part of the community, carrying forward a proud tradition of service to the City and County of Denver.

Yesterday, Denver Fire crews responded to a structure fire near south Yosemite way and Akron Street in District 3.
When crews first arrived, light smoke was coming from the eaves of the structure. Conditions quickly changed as the fire intensified, prompting a second alarm and bringing additional resources to the scene.
As the fire progressed, a partial collapse occurred on the Alpha/Bravo corner of the structure. For the safety of our firefighters, crews transitioned from an offensive to a defensive strategy and worked to contain the fire from the exterior.
Three apartments were displaced as a result of the fire. One cat was found deceased inside the structure. We are grateful there were no reported injuries and extend our condolences to those affected by this fire.
Fire investigators responded to the scene, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Responding companies included AL, D02, AST-01, D03, OPS-2, TR15, E13, E19, E11, E03, E24, T19, T16, TR27, D04, E22, T26, E18, R01, TR22 and E05.

Yesterday evening, Denver Fire crews responded to a single-family residential structure fire near E. 51st Ave. and N. Netherland St.
The homeowner noticed a fire on a second-story deck at the rear of the home that extended into the attic through the eaves. Due to heavy fire involvement and deteriorating conditions, crews transitioned to a defensive strategy upon arrival as a portion of the roof collapsed.
Firefighters used multiple master streams to bring the fire under control before transitioning to overhaul. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Our thoughts are with the homeowners as they begin the difficult process of recovering from this devastating fire. We are grateful everyone made it out safely, and we wish them strength and support in the days ahead.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Responding units: E2, E27, E29, E39, T2, T26, TR27, TR9, R2, D4, D5, Drone Unit, OPS 2, Air Light, and Medic 61.
