Sue D. and TJ C. Match Story
Sue is in her 60’s and has lived in her home on the South East corner of Cherry Creek State Park for many years, raising her children from a young age in this home. Sue came to Sunshine Home Share after hearing about the program from her daughter, who was worried about Sue living alone after a long term relationship ended. She was also interested in home sharing for the safety, companionship, and service exchange. Sue is a retired psychiatrist, previously working with the chronically mentally ill and in private practice during her career. She enjoys acrylic painting, walking, volunteering at the Dumb Friends League, and spending time with her sweet dog, Zoey. Sue describes herself as friendly, social, empathetic, and enjoys deep conversation. Sue was looking for a home share match that would be longer term, and was interested in light housework, yard work, meal preparation and dog sitting when she is out of town. Sue was renting a walk out, garden level basement and hoping to find someone that would be open to home sharing for longer term.
TJ is in his 40’s and was living at the MSU campus in the dorms before finding home sharing. He was paying an exorbitant amount and was interested in reducing his living expenses. TJ previously owned his own HVAC company and is a skilled tradesmen. He also went to culinary school and is a talented chef. TJ currently attends MSU and is pursuing his mechatronics and biomedical engineering and works in the physics lab as well as tutors. He has long term plans to go to grad school. TJ enjoys fixing things and is a tinkerer/builder, enjoys learning, and is full of energy. He was open to using his multiple trades/skills to support someone age in their home successfully.
Sue came into the program in mid/late June 2024 and met with 3 other potential housemates in July before meeting TJ. TJ came into the program at a similar time as Sue, and met with one other potential housemate. They immediately hit it off when they met, connecting over their love of deep/intentional conversations, their humor, and their love of animals. After meeting a couple of times they moved forward with a 2 week Trial Match in early August that transitioned seamlessly to being officially matched in mid August 2024.
Sue said about TJ “TJ is cooking delectable meals(I can still fit into my jeans!), deep cleaning my entire house, fixing so many things, helped me with my computer, engaging in deep and very caring conversations, keeping me company, asking me about my days and being really interested, remembering details about my family and our conversations, being kind/caring/interested in me/respectful/engaging/responsive, being reliable, exhibiting superb communication and listening skills, bringing a sense of humor to me and laughing and joking a lot, showing maturity ,and generally being extremely helpful with whatever I need.”
