At Sunshine Home Share we often focus on the impacts of home sharing on our Home Providers, those 55+ sharing their homes. We know our Home Providers that are matched gain income to support their daily needs, reduce their social isolation, and get the physical help they need around their home to age in place longer.

We often don't mention the real impacts on our Home Seekers that are able to attain affordable housing and grow their economic mobility in our high cost Denver economy.

Operation Hope recently studied Gen Z and Millennial adults and their view on their financial outlook, "the results reveal a widening gap between traditional financial guidance and the economic realities younger generations face, with 7 in 10 indicating wealth is out of reach as survival spending becomes the norm. This points not only to the importance of financial education, but the need to meet these younger adults where they are, creating new- and realistic- pathways to achieve the American Dream."

We see through our matched Home Seekers how home sharing is a "new- and realistic" intervention to support younger generations reach their financial goals!

Happy Last Day of Internship to our wonderful MSW intern, Mason! ❤🤗👏
Mason has spent 400+ hours with Sunshine since September 2025 and has supported our home share work in countless ways. She trained our staff on recent cognitive impairment/dementia diagnoses, attended Board Meetings, tabled at resource fairs, completed (many!) intakes, and supported our program participants through their home share journey by facilitating match meetings, home share agreements, and match check-ins.
Thank you, Mason, we are so grateful for you!

Thinking about homesharing or already part of a match? Setting a strong foundation can make all the difference in creating a positive and successful experience.

Communicate openly: Honest and consistent communication builds trust and helps prevent misunderstandings. When both people feel heard and comfortable speaking up, it creates a more positive and supportive homeshare experience.

Set clear expectations: Establishing house rules, responsibilities, and boundaries from the start keeps everyone on the same page. Clear expectations reduce conflict and help daily life run smoothly.

Build mutual respect: Respect is the foundation of a successful homeshare. Valuing each other’s space, routines, and differences creates a safe, harmonious, and lasting living arrangement.

A great homeshare is more than just sharing a home. It is about creating a respectful and supportive connection!
