Parks & Open Space Career Day invites upper-elementary and early-middle-school youth (ages 10 and older) to explore careers in the field of Natural Resources. Through hands-on stations led by various staff and volunteers, participants discover roles in wildlife, ranger services, GIS, stewardship, and more. This event helps youth understand what these careers are all about, engages them in outdoor-focused activities, and provides them with insight into future opportunities available to them in this space.

All programs include a short story time, hands-on activities, and a take-home craft. Afterwards, explore the farm. Children must be accompanied by an adult. 🐸 Tadpoles Released! Tiny tadpoles. A big step for conservation.

Northern leopard frogs are native to Colorado, but decades of wetland loss, invasive species, and other pressures have caused their populations to decline dramatically. Today, they are considered a Tier 1 Species of Greatest Conservation Need in our state.

Since 2022, Boulder County Parks & Open Space has partnered with the Innovation Center of St. Vrain Valley Schools and other local organizations to give these remarkable amphibians a helping hand.

Students help raise northern leopard frog tadpoles before releasing them into habitat along Left Hand Creek, gaining real-world conservation experience while helping restore a native species.

And there’s exciting news: frogs from previous releases are now reproducing on their own. 🐸💚

It’s a small splash with a much bigger ripple, showing what’s possible when conservation, education, and community come together.

Here’s to healthy wetlands, thriving wildlife, and many more little leaps ahead.

Join volunteer naturalists to stroll through this higher-elevation open space in the changing landscape of fall. As the trail winds through dark evergreen forest and opens into sunlit meadows, you’ll hear stories about the plants and animals that call this place home. We’ll walk about three miles round trip, with only short rocky or steeper sections, turning around at a color-splashed aspen grove. You’ll receive a mini field guide to inspire future wanderings.
