Denver Children's Advocacy Center PREVENT ABUSE - STRENGTHEN FAMILIES - RESTORE CHILDHOOD Our mission is to Prevent Abuse, Strengthen Families and Restore Childhood.

We accomplish our mission with integrated, research-based programming, a dedicated professional staff and volunteer board, the support of countless community partners, and individuals like you who understand the importance of our work. DCAC’s programs fall along a continuum of care that includes prevention, early childhood intervention, crisis response, forensic interviews, mental health treatment

, and family support services. Children and families access the services they need at any point in the continuum. We serve children in their homes, their schools and early learning centers, through telehealth, and at our child-friendly campus on Federal Boulevard. Understanding the many challenges our families face (for example: lack of transportation, distance, time) DCAC decided to offer services at various satellite offices in 2015 as well. September is a busy month at DCAC!

This month, we’re celebrating a summer of fun and connection, welcoming new faces, heading back to school with prevention education, thanking some incredible community partners, and counting down to 9th Annual Clays for Kids!

Back to school may mean new classrooms, new teachers and new routines. But at DCAC, prevention education happens all year long. 💙

In 2025 alone, DCAC staff brought our Safe from the Start curriculum into 206 classrooms, giving children age-appropriate tools to understand personal safety, identify trusted adults and speak up when something doesn’t feel right.

As students settle into a new school year, we’re proud to continue partnering with schools, educators and families to help build safer communities for Denver’s kids.

Imagine being a child and having to tell the most difficult experience of your life over and over again to different adults.

That's one of the things Child Advocacy Centers were created to help prevent.

The Denver Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC) is at the heart of the multidisciplinary team that responds to allegations of child abuse and cases where children have witnessed homicide or other crimes. The program operates under an agreement with Denver Police Department, Denver District Attorney’s Office, Denver Department of Human Services and Denver Health.

The goal is simple: Reduce trauma. Protect Children. Support Families. Help children heal.

Instead of asking children and caregivers to navigate a complicated system alone, the Child Advocacy Center brings professionals together around the needs of the child. That's what coordinated, child-focused response looks like.

When a child may have experienced abuse, they often have to talk about something incredibly difficult. A forensic interview provides a safe, child-friendly setting where they can share what happened in their own words.

Forensic interviewers like DCAC’s Hollie Reinhart are specially trained to ask developmentally appropriate, non-leading questions, giving children space to talk without suggesting answers or influencing what they say.

The interview is also designed to reduce the number of times a child has to repeat their story. Members of the multidisciplinary team (detectives, district attorneys) can observe the interview, allowing the information to support an investigation while keeping the child’s well-being at the center of the process.

Earlier this month, Hollie conducted her 2,000th forensic interview.

That’s 2,000 children she has helped with her skill and compassion to tell their story and ensure that they find healing.

THANK YOU to American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Denver for hosting a back-to-school drive to support children and families at DCAC.

This year, their members collected school supplies and raised more than $200 to help make sure kids have what they need to start the school year feeling prepared and confident. 💙

DCAC kids had a special visit with the Colorado Rapids Soccer Club! ⚽
Colorado Rapids sponsored a soccer clinic where kids got to practice some skills with coaches, met RapidMan, and went home with their very own soccer balls!

We love to provide kids experiences like these where they can play, laugh, try something new, and make friends - basically, get to be kids.

August 17th is National Nonprofit Day 💙 a day to recognize the organizations working every day to make their communities stronger.

At Denver Children’s Advocacy Center, our role is both simple and incredibly important: to be there when a child and family need us most.

DCAC brings together the people and services children need following suspected abuse, providing a safe, child-focused place for forensic interviews, family advocacy, trauma-informed therapy and support. But our work doesn’t stop there.

We also work throughout the Denver community to prevent abuse before it happens, giving children, parents, educators and other caring adults the knowledge and tools to help keep kids safe.

From prevention to investigation to healing, DCAC is part of a community-wide effort to ensure Denver’s children are heard, protected and supported.

On National Nonprofit Day, we’re proud to serve Denver and grateful to the donors, partners, volunteers and community members who make this work possible. 💙
