🚩 Join Firebrand and the Denver Communists for a two-week study group on The Mass Strike by Rosa Luxemburg.
The lessons of The Mass Strike — that workers’ strength lies in rank-and-file activity, that even the most vulnerable and unorganized workers can revitalize the labor movement, and that mass strikes, economic and political, will continue to break out as long as capitalism reigns — have been repeatedly played out over the ensuing century. And as capitalism threatens the very globe itself, the final lesson — that socialist politics and organization are essential for converting spontaneous mass strikes into coordinated revolutionary victory — could hardly be more relevant.

Drip Cafe is anti-gay! Join Denver Communists and us monthly to heckle homophobes and to alert the community of this businesses harmful ideology!

09/06/2026

200+ Colorado high schools walked out to protest ICE on Friday. Many in Denver rallied at La Alma Park at a great action organized by The Brown Berets Tepetlán, The Youth Coalition, General Strike US, 50501 Colorado, Pulse, People’s March Denver, and dozens of unaffiliated high school students.

A handful of right-wing agitators we’ve had the displeasure of encountering outside Drip Café and at other protests in the past came to taunt the crowd, then whine about it on social media. They were loudly confronted by the young protesters, which we were thrilled to see.

The crowd chanted the right-wingers down with “N4zi scum, off our streets!” and “No Trump, no K*K, no fascist USA!” and followed them around to prevent them from harassing the protest. The kids are alright!

The right-wing agitators who came to clip-farm included:
* Corey Blair of Break the Chains Media
* Wayne Laugesen, rightwing AM radio crank with a podcast called Wayne’s Word
* Jorge Stakis, cameraperson for Laugesen and mediocre content creator in his own right
* Jordan Baldwin (aka Jordan Scott) of First Amendment Media
* one loser with an “I ❤️ ICE” sign

They were particularly obsessed with us — just incensed that we actually call ourselves “communists”? — but it was nothing that a crowd of high schoolers and a protest marching band couldn’t handle.

After taking a big L at the anti-ICE demo, these leeches on liberatory movements volunteered for another by following us to our monthly protest against Drip Café, a few blocks away and a few hours later. But we keep that thang on us — a tuba — so nbd lol

This First Friday was a wild one! Last month, right-wing grifter Corey Blair of the floundering “Break the Chains Media” made a few videos of our protest that received significantly more engagement than the single-digit reacts his posts usually get. Predictably, that brought a wave of new wanna-be influencers to Friday’s protest, all hoping to boost their public profiles and make a few dollars mocking q***r people protesting for their rights.

This time, in addition to Blair, we saw Wayne Laugesen, a right-wing AM radio personality intent on provoking protesters; his cameraperson lackey, Jorge Stakis; and the queen of performative outrage, Angela Rose. All of these jokers tried to provoke reactions from protesters — hoping to turn our struggle into social media content — but between the grifters’ bad breath and even worse personalities, protesters knew to avoid them.

Another loser who uses the name “First Amendment Media” also made an appearance. When a woman blocked his camera because she didn’t want to be filmed, he pulled out a can of pepper spray and an umbrella and started threatening to mace people for obstructing him. This charade went on for upwards of an hour, with him eventually trying to get the police involved. They were happy to try to repress the protest, but they found no crime after reviewing the boy who cried wolf’s footage.

These grifters are ultimately incidental. They don’t care that the community doesn’t want Drip here, and they definitely don’t care whether Drip stays open. Their only concern is raising their own public profiles in the hopes of becoming the next Charlie Kirk (before his assassination).

We had seen most of these right-wing wanna-be influencers earlier at the high school walk out against ICE, where their agitation got a chilly reception to say the least. They are not really activists or organizers, but social media personalities who leech off of progressive movements to clip farm and rage bait.

Despite the distractions, we had a great and effective protest. The Art Walk crowd and local scene are as supportive as ever, with people walking by and starting “F**k Drip!” chants completely unprompted. A mother of two trans girls came up and told us how important our struggle is during a time of increasing q***r repression, and how the protests serve as a symbol of hope for q***r youth in Denver.

That is ultimately what matters. Denverites don’t want a hub for bigotry downtown, and the grifters and reactionaries who come out to support Drip mostly succeed in annoying locals and drawing even more attention to the problems Drip creates in the community.

Drip now finds itself trapped in a contradiction: its alliance with these grifters is one of the only ways it can get the media attention and donations it needs to stay open, but those same grifters also drive away the local clientele Drip would need to survive as an actual business.

Drip was bound to see a rise in support after last month’s uptick in media attention, including a national Fox News story. About two dozen out-of-towners came to awkwardly stand in front of Drip, half-heartedly trying to play defense for it. Often, this amounts to them insisting that Drip “loves” the protesters — despite the slurs, deadnames, intentional misgendering, and everything else — to which we’ll often respond, “Then why do they oppose gay rights?” Inevitably, this is met with some thought-terminating cliché like “Christ is king.”

It’s exhausting, and it highlights why the focus of the protest is engaging with the Art Walk crowd and informing them about Drip, rather than wasting time trying to reason with Drip and its supporters.

After this past weekend, the necessity of removing this reactionary stronghold from Denver could not be more apparent. Our struggle against Drip will continue on the First Friday of next month, and every First Friday until they close. Come join us and help show that the LGBTQIA+ community won’t be intimidated and won’t back down.

As a music group we have the special ability to render the live stream mute without everyone touching the agitator. Also we are very entertaining - we can keep the live streamers camera pointed at us while the organizers continue on with the action.

Invite us to your next action if you predict agitators will be there - we are ready to distract and descalate!

Thanks to Denver Communists for organizing this action monthly!

Protest Drip Café
Friday, Sept 4 from 6 - 9 pm MT
869 Santa Fe Dr, Denver

All you transphobes bound to lose!

🌈 Join the Denver Communists 🚩 Notes of Dissent 🎺 Bread & Roses Legal Center 🏴 the Trans Empowerment Alliance ⚧️ and Trans Rescue Network 🏳️‍⚧️ for our monthly protest against the Drip Café, a coffeeshop run by an anti-LGBTQ+, fundamentalist Christian church.

Our monthly protests have evolved into a mix of a picket, an anti-fascist counter-demonstration, and a street party. We always have a good time, whether we are informing people about Drip’s homophobia and transphobia, exchanging sharp words with self-identified bigots, or shooting the s**t with each other and the First Friday Art Walk crowd.

Come through! Every first Friday until Drip closes down for good. (For more info, check out the anti-Drip slideshows pinned to our Instagram page.)

“Our point of departure is simple: an anti-war and anti-imperialist politics cannot be satisfied with replacing one power bloc with another. Following through the implications of this position, however, requires conceptual mediation, summoning history into the present, revisiting past experiences, and confronting questions for which there are no ready-made answers. Such a politics must stand against imperialist war, sanctions, and regime-change projects while simultaneously confronting the repression and killing carried out by authoritarian states, as well as their appropriation of emancipatory struggles.”

defend woke from democratic socialists!
“Woke 1.0 was crazy!”

disavowing the left during a new Red Scare
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently denounced demands by the left circa 2020 to defund the police and cancel Thanksgiving by glibly claiming “Woke 1.0 was crazy!”

In an effort to make herself a viable candidate for president, she disparaged the progressive politics of the George Floyd Rebellion and attributed the political opening to COVID, not the Black Lives Matter movement.

what is woke?
The term “woke” is a hundred-year-old African American English word for people awakened to racial injustice. It was popularized by the 2014 Black Lives Matter movement and more recently adopted by the right as a pejorative for the politically progressive.

Many on the left use “woke” snarkily to indicate extremism — or worse, adopt anti-woke positions in a disastrous effort to appeal to the right.

The revolutionary left should embrace “woke” unironically. Yes, we fight all forms of bigotry and make radical demands for systemic change! Yes, we’re woke!

AOC’s got us missing her Woke 1.0 version
Yes, she was also voting to fund the US and Israeli militaries around the same time, but AOC calling immigration detention centers “concentration camps” and demanding the abolition of ICE was not at all crazy.

When we let the right control the narrative, legitimate demands sound unreasonable. While Donald Trump is attacking the left as “terrorists,” the no-longer-woke AOC chose to join in on the attack.

we can’t change the democratic party, it changes us

from abolition to jail construction
In 2020, New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani, the latest great hope for the democratic socialist movement, said of the NYPD, “There is no negotiating with an institution this wicked and corrupt. Defund it. Dismantle it.”

Yet as mayor, he has disavowed defunding the police, retained iron-fisted Zionist Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, and is building four new jails in NYC.

why are left Democrats attacking woke?
Reformist socialists have historically betrayed internationalism and anti-oppression politics in pursuit of popularity and electability. This is due to a structural pitfall built into the electoral tactic.

Socialists chasing votes in a non-revolutionary period will always be tempted to cater to the present state of consciousness, rather than trying to advance it.

democratic socialists are adapting to reaction
forever reaching to their right, they will inevitably betray the left

the dead end of democratic socialism
If these are the most radical leftists in the Democratic Party, as both the right and left claim, it’s clear there is no path forward through this party. We can’t defund the police, abolish ICE, or stop the military-industrial complex unless we fight both the Democrats and the Republicans.

Abandoning these “socialist” Democrats is an essential step in building a truly socialist movement. They betray the working class, hinder our movement, and confuse the public about what socialism means. Socialism is workers controlling the means of production, not just “when the government does stuff.”

why is MAGA attacking woke?
Trump and MAGA seek to entrench the worst aspects of capitalism, from white supremacy and gender oppression to endless war and unchecked exploitation. “Woke” is their codeword for anyone who opposes their schemes.

Woke is a threat to them because they are outnumbered and correctly see movements for human liberation as their natural enemies. By vilifying and pathologizing the left, the right seeks to divide and conquer — and leftists who disavow woke enable them.

if anything Woke 1.0 didn’t go far enough
There was nothing crazy about the burning of a Minneapolis police station after George Floyd’s murder. There was nothing crazy about 25 million people taking to the streets in militant protest against racist police terror.

But to accomplish the goals of the anti-racist and anti-fascist movement, we need more than mass protest. We need political strikes, a revolutionary party, and ultimately a socialist revolution.

we’re going to need everyone to get more woke immediately

defund & abolish the police! abolish Thanksgiving! socialists out of the Democratic Party!
