This week, our crews participated in our annual extrication training. This time around we did a scenario based training that our firefighters would actually encounter, involving three people trapped in a three car accident. We put a GoPro on the spreaders to show the strength of the tools we use to extricate people. These spreaders can produce over 242,000 pounds of force at their strongest position. We like to say that that's enough for us to ruin a car's day and significantly improve our patient's survival chances!

We wanted to try the trend of people pranking their bosses with meaningless updates throughout the day. Let's be clear. You definitely DON'T call a Fire Chief with useless updates. Thank you to Chief Garner for being a good sport and not firing us...;)

Just before 3:30 this afternoon, crews responded to a brush fire in the Sandhofer Open Space, in the area of 7900 Downing Street. Engine 14 was the first to arrive and due to wind gusts and the fire's proximity to homes, a second brush truck was requested. Two engines, two brush trucks, a SAM officer, a Battalion Chief, and an Arson Investigator responded. Firefighters did extinguish the fire before it reached any homes. There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation. Thank you to Adams County Sheriff's Office, Colorado and Adams County Government, CO Park Rangers for your assistance.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Lieutenant Chad Tellinger. Many of our firefighters worked with him throughout the years and are heavily impacted by this news.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends and his brothers and sisters at North Metro Fire Rescue District. ❤️❤️❤️

It is with great sadness that North Metro Fire Rescue District announces the off-duty death of Lieutenant Chad Tellinger due to illness. Chad was hired by North Metro in 1998 and proudly served the community and organization for more than 27 years. He was 52 years old.

Chad was a highly respected firefighter, mentor, IAFF Local 2203 leader, and beloved family man whose loss is deeply felt across the North Metro family. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, two sisters, and his mother.

The District is working closely with Chad’s family to coordinate services and support. With the family’s permission, additional information will be shared in the coming days.

We had a special night at our board meeting as we officially welcomed some very talented people to their new positions. Fire Marshal Aaron Huckstep brings over 30 years of experience in the fire service and comes to us from Chandler Fire Department in Arizona. Director of Finance Brooke Peterson joins us with over 20 years of management experience in multiple government positions. We greatly value the experience both bring to our department!
Fire Medics Reed Henderson and Will Hasz were also officially sworn in to their newest positions. We appreciate the hard work it took to achieve this promotion.
Congrats all!

Two of our Chiefs and multiple hazmat members attended the 3rd annual Colorado Hazmat response Summit this week. ACFR Division Chief of Emergency Management Mark Schuman was given an award for being one of the driving forces behind the Hazmat Summit. Well done Chief!
Hazmat teams from across the state attend this summit which offers important state and federal hazmat updates, as well as fantastic hands on training opportunities.
