I have a hard time finding resources for dealing with aggression (hitting, yelling, throwing things), but here is an article with a few links for caregiving support. If you have thoughts on dealing with aggressive behaviors I'd love to hear them!

This book talked about the idea of "dementia blindness". Close family members being unable to see the changes taking place because of the child/parent or husband/wife relationship. Taking care of a family member with a dementia disorder is so challenging. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

Totally. Right now I’m trying to spend my extra dollars on things that make me feel good from the inside out; initially because I couldn’t afford to get the skin care/anti-aging things that I wanted. Things that I love to do include strength training, qi gong, sauna/cold plunge, and needlecraft social hours. Walking my dog. I love, love, love my job as a caregiver. It brings me joy- and an occasional Jan.
It’s going to take a literal village my fellow gen Xers.

The only requirement Denver has (that I have found) to work in a facility is Basic Lifesaving Skills. Greed is what is keeping these facilities “understaffed”. I am a CNA and have my QMAP. I have applied for jobs at and spoken to people at 5 of “the top” assisted living facilities in Denver and never received an interview.
I also wonder if ageism is at play as I am 53. A strong and healthy 53, but 53.

The conditions in nursing homes and assisted living centers around Colorado, where residents often receive as little as two hours of direct care each day, are deteriorating.

Chronic understaffing has led to severe deficiencies at these facilities, more than in most states, with rising numbers of complaints lodged by residents.
