His office prosecutes felonies and misdemeanors committed in Denton County, advocates for vulnerable children and victims of crime, and advises county agencies.

BREAKING: Today a Denton County jury sentenced Derrick King to LIFE in prison for two count of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child and 20 years in prison (the maximum) for Indecency with a Child, plus a $10,000 fine. Judge Brent Hill “stacked” the sentences, meaning that King must serve them one after the other, rather than at the same time. ADAs Alexa Galindo and Lauren Marshall presented the State’s case, aided by DA Investigator John Stovall and Victim Liasion Veronica Brunner, following an investigation by the Aubrey Police Department. Thanks to their work, the jury’s thoughtful deliberation, and the victim’s bravery, King will spend the remainder of his life behind bars for his years of sexual abuse and deviant behavior involving multiple victims.

Today a Denton County jury sentenced Michael Tooley to LIFE in prison for the 2024 murder of Dylan Gurley, after finding Tooley guilty yesterday. ADAs Michelle Dobson and Sarah Seaborne presented the State’s case, aided by DA Inv. Rick Duggan and Victim Liaison Alexandria Van Der Stuyf, following an investigation by the Denton Police Department.

BREAKING - Today a Denton County jury sentenced Kyle Daniels to 13 years and 6 months in prison after yesterday convicting him of Manslaughter. ADAs Jordan Motsenbocker and Jesse Davis presented the State's case, after an investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety, and aided by DA Inv. Greg Stern and Victim Liaison Amber Dunn.

Today a Denton County jury found Jose Rodriguez-Perez GUILTY of Trafficking of a Child and Sexual Abuse of a Child, and sentenced him to 40 and 17 years in prison, respectively. Judge Brent Hill "stacked" the sentences, meaning that Rodriguez-Perez must complete one prison sentence before he starts serving the other. ADAs Lauren Marshall and Alexa Galindo presented the State's case, aided by DA Inv. Scott Haney, and following an investigation by Hickory Creek PD Det. Jim Zehetner.

Today a Denton County jury sentenced Jose Diaz-Arbaiza to LIFE in prison for Continuous Sexual Assault of a Child and 20 years in prison for Indecency with a Child (the maximum) after finding him guilty of those offenses. ADAs Kari Gannam and Rachel Hodges presented the State’s case, aided by DA Inv. Scott Haney and Director of Victim Services Veronica Brunner, following an investigation by the Carrollton Police Department. Judge Michael Dickens of the 477th Judicial District Court presided over the trial and “stacked” the sentences. This means that even if Diaz-Arbaiza someday makes parole on his life sentence, he will then begin to serve his 20 years sentence without credit for the years he’d already served.

Today a Denton County jury sentenced Fabian Aguilar Munos to 30 years in prison after finding him guilty of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. ADAs Kari Gannam and Alexa Galindo presented the State’s case, aided by DA Inv. Andi Fletcher and Director of Victim Services Veronica Brunner, following an investigation by the Southlake Police Department. Judge Brent Hill of the 367th Judicial District Court presided over the trial and pronounced the sentence.

LIFE SENTENCES: This week a Denton County jury found Patrick Lawler guilty of multiple counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and one count of Sexual Performance by a Child and sentenced him to LIFE in prison. The jury also handed down the maximum 20 years in a related Attempted Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child case. Justice Lee Gabriel presided and pronounced the sentences. ADAs Lauren Marshall and Kari Gannam presented the State's case, aided by Inv. Andi Fletcher and Director of Victim Services Veronica Brunner, following an investigation by The Colony Police Department.
