🏛️ NEW 4-H PROJECT OPPORTUNITY: CITIZEN LEADERSHIP!

Ever wondered how a bill becomes a law, what happens during a City Council meeting, or what judges and elected officials actually do?
Denton County 4-H is partnering with the Center for Women in Government at Texas Woman’s University for a hands-on Citizen Leadership Project during the 2026–2027 4-H year!

Members will get to experience government and citizenship outside of the classroom through activities including:

🍀 Mock Congress
🍀 Community service at Shiloh Fields
🍀 Executive, Legislative & Judicial Branch activities
🍀 Visit with a Denton County Justice of the Peace
🍀 Attend a Denton City Council meeting
🍀 TWU’s The Suffragist musical
🍀 Women in Leadership project & presentations
🍀 Opportunities to meet and learn from government and public-service professionals

The project is open to any enrolled 4-H member and will take place throughout the 2026–2027 school year.

This is a great project for members interested in leadership, citizenship, government, community service, public speaking, or learning more about how their community works!

Dress electric and NEON! It’s time to GLOW!! ⚡️🍀

Don’t forget to bring a canned item as your entry for our canned food drive! This benefits those in need as a community service activity. 🥫

Don’t know many dances? That’s alright!! Join your county ambassadors at 5:30 for dance lessons, and we’ll teach you how to ‘cut footloose’! 🪩🕺

ADDITIONAL UPDATE: The time of the dance will actually be from 6pm-9pm, with dance lessons starting at 5:30!

🐰 Rabbit Roundup Recap! 🍀

We had a great turnout at yesterday’s Rabbit Roundup with 27 people in attendance—plus a few 🐰 friends!

A big THANK YOU to our presenters for sharing their time, knowledge, and experience with our 4-H families. We also want to thank the American Legion for allowing us to use their meeting space for the event!

Couldn’t make it yesterday? No worries! This was just the beginning. As long as there is interest, we plan to continue offering Rabbit Project meetings and learning opportunities throughout the year.

🛣️ ONE DAY 4-H: ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY CLEANUP 🍀
Join Denton County 4-H for One Day 4-H as we complete our first cleanup of our newly adopted section of FM 455!

What is One Day 4-H?

One Day 4-H is a statewide day of community service that brings 4-H members, families, clubs, and volunteers together to give back to their communities. Across Texas, 4-H'ers will be completing service projects and showing the impact we can make when we work together!

For Denton County, we'll be putting that spirit of service to work by picking up litter along our new Adopt-A-Highway section of FM 455.

⚠️ Safety is especially important! We will be working along an active highway, so we strongly encourage plenty of adult participation and supervision. All youth under 18 must be supervised by a parent/guardian or their designee.

✅ Please RSVP on the event in our Denton County 4-H BAND calendar so we know how many members and families to expect. Additional meeting and cleanup instructions will be shared with participants before the event.

🔬⚙️ Denton County 4-H STEM Club is off to a great start!

The STEM Club recently kicked off its new 4-H year with a successful first meeting, including the induction of its new club officers! 🍀

Members also had the opportunity to hear from guest speaker and engineer Jeff Wegenka, who shared about engineering, innovation, and patents. After learning about the process of turning an idea into something new, members got to put their own creativity to work!

For their hands-on challenge, members were tasked with designing and creating a brand-new product using a grocery bag and other materials. It was a great opportunity to practice problem-solving, teamwork, creativity, and the engineering design process.

4-H projects like STEM give youth the chance to explore their interests while building skills they can use far beyond the club meeting.

We can’t wait to see what our STEM Club members create, build, and discover this year!

🍴 Denton County 4-H Food Challenge is coming October 12!
New to 4-H or never competed in Food Challenge before? Think of it as a 4-H cooking competition! Teams work together to create a dish using a provided key ingredient and pantry items. Then, they present their dish to judges and explain nutrition, food safety, preparation, cost, teamwork, and more.
📅 October 12
⏰ Check-In: 9:00 AM | Orientation: 9:15 AM
💲 $30 per team
👥 Teams of 3–4 members in the same age division
⏳ Registration Deadline: October 5 at 11:59 PM

Our Denton County 4-H Food & Nutrition Project will be holding meetings and practices to help members learn the skills needed for the contest and prepare their teams. These practices are not required to compete! Families can also put together their own team and practice independently.
