Our Drowning Prevention Art Show happens tonight, and you're invited!

Throughout the summer, children in our community have been using their creativity to help spread important messages about drowning prevention. Now, we’re bringing their artwork together for a special Drowning Prevention Art Show at the Caroline County Public Library in Denton!

📅 Thursday, September 10
⏰ 5:00–7:00 PM
📍 Caroline County Public Library – Central Library
Large Meeting Room, Denton

Stop by to see artwork submitted throughout our Drowning Prevention Art Contest and help us celebrate the talented young artists who participated this summer. Thank you to every child who created and shared artwork with us! Your creativity helped start important conversations about staying safe around the water. 💙

The end of summer doesn’t mean the end of water safety. We encourage families to use the Art Show as another opportunity to talk with children about what they’ve learned—and to remember that drowning prevention and water safety are important all year long, whether you’re visiting an indoor pool, boating, fishing, traveling, or spending time near the water.

We hope you’ll join us to celebrate our young artists and keep the conversation about water safety going! 🛟

🎨 We have a Grand Prize winner!

Congratulations to Matthew, age 5, the Grand Prize winner of the Caroline County Health Department’s Drowning Prevention Art Contest! Matthew will receive a $1,500 Sun Outdoors gift card. 🏆

We want to extend a huge THANK YOU to every child who participated in our contest this summer—and to the parents and caregivers who helped them get involved. Your creativity helped us share important water-safety messages throughout our community. 💙

🎨 And we have one more opportunity to celebrate our young artists! Join us for our Drowning Prevention Art Show on Thursday, September 10, from 5:00–7:00 PM in the Large Meeting Room at the Caroline County Public Library – Central Library in Denton. Artwork submitted throughout the summer will be on display, and light refreshments will be served. We hope you’ll stop by and see the wonderful work created by our participants!

Although summer is winding down, drowning prevention is important all year long. Keep talking about water safety with your children and continue practicing the Five Layers of Protection:

🔹 Barriers & Alarms – Use proper barriers, fencing, gates and alarms to help prevent unintended access to water.

🔹 Supervision – Provide close, constant and capable adult supervision whenever children are in or around water.

🔹 Water Competency – Build swimming and water-safety skills through appropriate swim instruction and continued practice.

🔹 Life Jackets – Wear properly fitted, U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets when appropriate, especially while boating or around open water.

🔹 Emergency Preparation – Learn CPR with rescue breaths, have rescue equipment and a phone nearby, and know what to do in an emergency.

Thank you for helping us make water safety a priority in Caroline County. Keep the conversations going, keep practicing the Five Layers of Protection, and help us spread drowning prevention awareness all year long!
