Each year, we remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, with an annual ceremony at our 9/11 Firefighters Memorial Bell Tower. Today marks 25 years since that tragic day, and we pause to remember the lives forever changed and the courage shown by the first responders who served.

This memorial, featuring a World Trade Center I-beam that Denton Firefighters brought back from Ground Zero, stands as a lasting reminder of the commitment and sacrifice of the brave heroes who responded that day. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

We are counting down the days until the City Hall Courtyard looks like this again. 😍 And the best part, it's all done by YOU! We are looking for Dentonites to participate in this year's "Scary Chairy Orchard" art installation. Last year, we had over 225 unique chairs, and this year, we are looking to make it even bigger and better!

Curious how this wacky little art installation got its start?? Well, it all stems from the original Chairy Orchard, which was a beloved art space founded by neighbors Anne Pearson and Judy Smith, who curated a gallery of eclectic chairs in the open space between their houses.

The Chairy Orchard closed in June 2023, but some of its original chairs have been preserved and incorporated into the Halloween revival of the space: the Scary Chairy Orchard. Now, every October, we invite our community to decorate and contribute a chair so the iconic Denton Chairy Orchard can live on.

P.S. ✨
NTX Furniture Restoration is offering FREE chairs to participants in the Scary Chairy Orchard, on a first-served basis and can be picked up at 1210 Duncan St. (Check availability at 940-783-5940)

Thistle Creative Reuse is offering 50% off for Scary Chairy registrants (up to a $20 purchase) for supplies. (618 W University Dr.)

This year's Denton Halloween features a very special Halloween Coloring Book that is very much a labor of (local) love. 🫶 Made entirely within Denton County, the coloring book showcases illustrations from local artists, was printed in-house by Triangle Non-Profit Publishing, and will be sold around town at local bookstores, including Recycled Books and More Fun Comics & Games.

We are SO LUCKY to have such an amazing artist community here in Denton, and we can't wait to color outside the lines this Halloween season. 🎃

Starting September 9 through 29, the City of Denton Streets Department will micro surface select streets across the community as part of the City’s preventive maintenance program.

What is micro-surfacing?? Micro-surfacing is a preventative maintenance process that protects the street from deterioration and extends the overall lifespan of the roadway, saving money over time by avoiding more costly rehabilitation. Micro surfacing is applied to streets that are still in good condition to help preserve pavement quality and extend the roadway’s lifespan.

The project will be completed in the following phases and will include both residential streets and major arterials.

--Phase 1: Sept. 9-12
--Phase 2: Sept. 14-19
--Phase 3: Sept. 21-25
--Phase 4: Sept. 28-29

Residents can view the streets that fall under each phase, including maps, on Discuss Denton at www.cityofdenton.com/microsurfacing

As the work is performed, residents may see either single-lane or full street closures, depending on the location and scope. Each micro surfacing segment application typically takes 4–6 hours and occurs between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

If your street is impacted, crews will leave a door hanger at your residence with the scheduled date of work to be completed and a reminder to move vehicles off the roadway and turn off your sprinklers.

Roadways will be completely inaccessible to traffic until the application has finished curing; therefore, residents should plan for a temporary period when they will not be able to access their homes by car while the work is underway. Once each segment has cured, crews will reopen the street for traffic. We appreciate your patience as we work to provide essential maintenance to our residential streets!
