Residents may hear a loud release of air in the area of Route 9, between Avalon Boulevard and Magnolia Lake, this evening between approximately 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM as part of the ongoing Route 9 utility project.

The contractor is conducting a pressure test on the newly installed line and will be releasing air pressure from the system once testing is complete. This process can create a loud noise that may sound similar to a gas leak. They will be blowing the line down from the South Jersey Gas (SJG) driveway on Route 9. The test is expected to last only a short time, and a muffler will be used to help minimize noise.

This is a normal part of the construction process. No natural gas is involved, and there will be no gas odor associated with this work.

SJG appreciates everyone’s patience as this project moves toward completion.

This year marks the 250th Anniversary of America and the 200th Anniversary of Dennis Township. As part of these anniversary celebration, Dennis Township is inviting locals to capture the people, places, and history that make the community unique through a photo contest titled “250 Years Through Our Lens.” The contest encourages participants of all ages to share images that reflect the township’s heritage, community spirit, and natural beauty. Submissions will be accepted through July 12, 2026. Participants may submit photographs in five categories:

Historic Treasures – Buildings, monuments, cemeteries, landscapes, and historic landmarks in Dennis Township
Community Spirit – Local events, neighbors, volunteers, businesses, and generational families
“Then & Now” Recreations – Modern recreations of historical photos taken at the same location
Hidden Gems – Unique or lesser-known spots around town
Youth Vision – Photos taken by person under the age of 14

Participants may submit up to one digital photograph in each category, and participants are encouraged to include a short cap on or story about each image.

All eligible entries will be displayed during National Night Out on August 4, 2026, at the Dennis Township Recreation Center, where community members will vote for their favorite photographs by ballot.

Winners will be announced during the National Night Out celebration and will receive:

Recognition at the August 18, 2026, Township Committee Meeting
A feature on Dennis Township’s social media channels
Display of winning photographs at Town Hall
A gift card

The Township will also celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary and Dennis Township’s 200th Anniversary with cupcakes for National Night Out attendees.

A note about the grant: “Cape May County’s Land of the Free Celebration 250 grant program provided municipalities the opportunity to apply for matching funds to support patriotic events recognizing America’s 250th Anniversary.

While municipalities could apply for up to $25,000, the program required a dollar-for-dollar cash match from the municipality. That means any award had to be matched with local taxpayer funds.
Dennis Township chose to apply for $1,000 to support a patriotic photo contest and related materials. This project met the grant requirements and, more importantly, was already included in the township’s preliminary budget. That allowed us to participate in the program without increasing local operating costs.

Dennis Township has not historically hosted a July 4th celebration, as neighboring communities and shore towns already provide a variety of patriotic events throughout Cape May County. Our primary township-wide summer event remains National Night Out, which continues to be well attended and supported by residents.

Our approach was simple: participate in the grant opportunity in a way that made sense for Dennis Township while remaining fiscally responsible. We were able to do that while maintaining a 0% municipal tax rate this year, which continues to be a priority for this administration.”

It’s been a delightful, eventful, and colorful month at the Dennis Township Senior Center! 🌸🐦

We welcomed spring with a special birdhouse painting activity alongside DT National Honor Society students, plus a fascinating “Birds of the Bayshore” presentation from our own member, Dale R. A big thank you to the DT Boys to Men Club for building the birdhouses—keep an eye out for them around our center and in Belleplain State Park!

For Earth Day, we celebrated with music during our Java & Jamz program 🎶 followed by an unforgettable visit to the Cape May County Zoo. With the help of the Zoo Education staff and Zookeeper McKenna, we enjoyed a personal tour, met some amazing animals, and even helped feed a few barnyard friends!

Cape Assist also joined us again for our Caregiver Support Group, providing lunch and a guided painting session—reminding us all how important self-care is. 💙

From birds to art to nature walks, this month brought us together in the best ways—leaving us feeling refreshed, connected, and inspired across generations. 🌿

The members of the Dennis Township Senior Center always enjoy a good outing—especially when it includes delicious food and great company. One of our most recent adventures even came with a twist… a Murder Mystery! Duhn duhn duhhnnn!!!

We traveled back in time to 1876 to celebrate America’s 100th birthday at Mt. Hope Mansion. The party was lively—but someone ended up dead! Only two of our sharp sleuths, Sue and Ruth, correctly guessed “whodunit,” but everyone had an amazing time trying to solve the mystery, meeting new friends, and enjoying a fantastic meal. It was truly a fun and memorable experience.

Closer to home, we also enjoyed a wonderful lunch outing at Cape May’s Lucky Bones. We were treated to our own private room, beautifully decorated with twinkling lights that created a magical atmosphere. The setting was lovely, but the company was even better.

While we certainly enjoy dining out (and yes—we really do!), we also take pride in supporting local businesses—and especially our local students. Our latest visit was to Cape May Tech’s “The Perch,” a student-run café located in the Conference Center at the high school. This was our second visit, and once again, the students impressed us with their culinary talents and outstanding service. From soup to dessert, everything was delicious, and many of us even brought home leftovers. Bravo to these hardworking young men and women for running such a fantastic kitchen and café!

Of course, dining out is just one of the many things we do at the Dennis Township Senior Center. Come check us out—we’re sure you’ll find something that sparks your interest!

A message from ACE:

Atlantic City Electric is committed to providing safe and reliable energy service for its customers and communities. Each day, essential work is being performed to modernize and strengthen the local energy grid against more frequent and impactful weather events to increase resiliency and enhance energy service for its customers.

As part of this effort, the company will be upgrading electric infrastructure on an existing transmission line that runs from Upper Township to Dennis Township. This work is expected to begin March 24 and be completed by late-April 2026, weather permitting.

Atlantic City Electric’s contractor, MJ Electric, will be using a helicopter to perform these upgrades starting in the transmission right-of-way from Beesley’s Point to the company’s Corson Substation, located near Corson Tavern Road and Ocean View-Woodbine Road in Dennis Township. The helicopter work will minimize any impact on the environment while enabling easier access to energy infrastructure along the transmission line route.

This work will occur Monday through Saturday, weather permitting, from approximately 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Atlantic City Electric looks forward to further improving reliability in these communities and appreciates the patience and understanding of its customers as the company performs these important upgrades.

🍀 Whether Irish or not, everyone was feeling the luck of the Irish at the Dennis Township Senior Center!🍀

Members wore their green, waved their shamrocks, and joined in plenty of festive shenanigans. During Lucky Bingo, bagpiper Jeff MacNeill of Nae Breeks Pipes & Drums and Sandpipers Pipes & Drums of Atlantic County filled the room with the sounds of Irish favorites and even shared how the bagpipes are played.

The fun continued at our colorful “Taste the Rainbow” St. Patrick’s Party, where members enjoyed a delicious lunch and shared vibrant dishes that created a beautiful rainbow of food. 🌈🍽️

After lunch, the Jersey Shore Irish Dancers had everyone tapping their toes! Members were even invited to get up and learn a few fun Irish dance steps. Their emcee, Ed, kept the crowd laughing with his leprechaun jokes and knee-slappers—since that’s about as tall as his jokes got! 😄

🍀A lucky day full of music, laughter, dancing, and great company! 🍀
