Shelter Update for Cape Cod Residents

We know many across Cape Cod remain without power or heat tonight. If your home is unsafe, regional emergency shelters are open and available.

➡️ Travel to a designated emergency shelter is permitted under the statewide travel ban
➡️ Road conditions remain hazardous; travel only if necessary for safety

Current Regional Shelter Status:
➡️ Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School – Opening tonight at 8:00 PM, prepared to receive additional shelter demand
➡️ Barnstable Intermediate School – Open and operational, currently serving residents
➡️ Nauset High School (Eastham) – At capacity and closed to additional intake

➡️ A small number of local warming centers are opening in some communities. We will continue sharing those locations as information becomes available.

Grateful to Housing Secretary Augustus for joining my colleagues, municipal leaders, and me on the Cape for a discussion while also making EOHLC accessible for questions and answers on the Seasonal Communities designation we successfully passed last session in the Affordable Homes Act, and building on that work to provide municipalities with a toolkit for housing.

The services Duffy Health Center provides our community here on the Cape are truly inspiring - especially their ability to consistently go above and beyond to provide quality care, housing, and mental health services. With looming potential cuts to Medicare, my colleagues and I are ready to work with like Duffy to ensure services continue for the Cape and across the Commonwealth

Today, I had a very productive working lunch with Transportation Secretary Tibbits-Nutt, my colleagues, Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA), as well as RTAs throughout the Commonwealth. As we enter into budget season, we are working towards getting as much funding for CCRTA as possible to support our critical local transportation needs here on Cape and throughout the Commonwealth.

Nauset Youth Alliance fills such a critical void for working parents and guardians - providing after school and summer childcare for ages 5-14. This morning, we discussed how we can make childcare more affordable and accessible for Town of Brewster, Cape Cod families.

Last Friday, my colleagues and I discussed with the Cape Cod & Islands Association of REALTORS members the critical need for housing, wastewater, and infrastructure to keep our region a vibrant place to live now and for the future. We discussed bills we filed, the benefits of the Seasonal Communities designation for housing we passed last legislative session, and legislative solutions for this session.

a big group of Cape Codders, many from my district, and islanders, came to the State House to meet with me and my colleagues to discuss issues, solutions, and pieces of legislation important to them - from human rights, to immigration, to lifting kids out of poverty. A very productive conversation - thank you for making the trip and for making your voices heard!
