Demopolis City Schools

Demopolis City Schools Demopolis City Schools began in 1901, when the Demopolis City Council voted to give $2,000 to be used to start the public school system.

Initially there was both a boys' school and a girls' school. In 1912, the old school that stands on Main Street was built. It contained grades 1-11 at that time. Since then the Demopolis City School System has grown to include two elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school that educates children in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grades.

As we celebrate Labor Day, we recognize and appreciate the hard work, dedication, and contributions of workers in our community and across our nation.

Monday, September 7 — Schools & offices are CLOSED in observance of Labor Day.

Tuesday, September 8 — Students are OUT of school while our teachers participate in a Professional Development Day.

We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend, gets some rest, and comes back ready for another great week of learning!

The Foundation had the honor of awarding the Terri Speegle Classroom Innovation Grant to Mrs. Janie Basinger, 2nd grade teacher at Westside Elementary .

This grant seeks to transform the learning environment by integrating cutting-edge educational tools, methodologies and technologies to enhance student engagement, foster collaboration, and cultivate critical thinking. This grant is designed to support teachers in exploring innovative instructional strategies that can effectively address diverse learning needs and improve academic outcomes.

Mrs. Basinger's grant is for Merge Cubes, which provides opportunities for students to actively engage with content across multiple subjects making learning immersive and interactive through hands-on, interactive augmented reality experiences.

September is Attendance Awareness Month!
At Demopolis City Schools, we know that every school day matters and every minute counts.

When students are in school consistently, they have more opportunities to:
✅ Learn new skills and master important concepts
✅ Build strong relationships with teachers and classmates
✅ Participate in activities, athletics, clubs, and special events
✅ Stay on track academically
✅ Build habits that lead to success beyond high school

Missing just a few days here and there can add up quickly and make it harder for students to keep up. Good attendance isn't just about being present—it’s about being part of the learning, growing, and Tiger community every day.

Parents, students, teachers, and our entire community all play an important role in making attendance a priority.
