This past Wednesday, January 7th, USCGC Wedge and her crew had the honor of witnessing and presenting Petty Officer Mixon with his Cutterman insignia.

The Cutterman is a time honored tradition within the United States Coast Guard, signifying at least 5 years of sea time and qualifications aboard the members respective cutters. This is a great achievement and honor, Bravo Zulu DC2 Mixon.

Saddened by the loss of CWO Bobbi East, the crew of CGC WEDGE was unable to attend the ATC Mobile honors ceremony. WEDGE took a moment this morning to render honors and pay respect to CWO Bobbi East by laying a wreathe and flowers into the Black Warrior River while underway. Practice makes perfect. The crew of CGC Wedge regularly practices many casualty drills to stay prepared for various situations we may come across. These are some snapshots of a recent main space fire drill in which the crew responded to a mock engine room ‘bravo fire’.

Fires are one of the most dangerous and catastrophic events to happen aboard any vessel, keeping up to date with safety regulations, maintaining fire fighting equipment and knowing how to combat these casualties are essential for any boater.

Over the past two weeks, CGC Wedge and her crew were hard at work ensuring the southern stretch of the Tombigbee river, from Demopolis all the way to Mobile, is serviced with buoys. From Monday to Thursday alone, Wedge and her crew set 142 buoys! These aids to navigation assist both commercial and private traffic on the riverways, designating safe travel areas.

Today, members on CGC Wedge had the opportunity to partake in some water safety/survival training. They were able to work with BMC Anderson as he demonstrated different survival positions and how to effectively assist a person in distress. This training allows our shipmates to maintain their knowledgeability of such skills in the event of a sudden situation.

Yesterday onboard CGC Wedge we had the pleasure of having an advancement ceremony for BM1 Mitchell Anderson. Shortly after 11 am BM1 Anderson was advanced to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. This is advancement is such a huge accomplishment in a member's career. Congratulation to you and your family Chief Anderson.
