United Delton Kellogg Teachers "A Staff that Cares"
A Staff that cares about our students! A Staff that cares about our schools! A Staff that cares about our community!

The intention of this page is to show unity. We want to unite and care for our children. That is the one common thread all of us share; let's use it as a stepping stone to make our school district the best in the area. We will ask questions, point out positive things occurring in our district, and also point out facts. Sometimes the facts are unpleasant or there are differing opinions on the issue

s. ...Although it can be uncomfortable, disagreements on the issues can be positive, generating action to work together to do what is best. Many avenues of communication are needed to maintain the integrity of our schools, while transforming areas that need improvement. We welcome open, respectful dialogue. With that being said, please consider the central focus of our cause, which is uniting and caring for our kids, schools, and community. Please keep this in mind when posting comments. We are grateful for all of the people who are supporting the United Delton Kellogg Teachers. When you support teachers, you support children and the community. Thank you,
The United Delton Kellogg Teachers

Teacher Spotlight: Ms. Ferguson
Delton Kellogg Elementary and Middle School
I started teaching at Delton Kellogg almost 14 years ago. Since then I have taught a variety of things including second grade, Title 1 Reading (in both the elementary and middle school), and a short stint in elementary P.E. and library. Since then my teaching has come full circle to hone in on my love for literacy; I taught ELA & Writing at the middle school for the last 8 years..
Currently, I find myself right back where I started, splitting time once again between the middle school as an ELA/Writing teacher and the elementary as a Reading Specialist. I live in Grand Rapids (it’s a long commute!) with my husband Jeremy, my two sons Eli (10yrs) and Emmett (8yrs), my step-son Cooper (10 yrs), my two dogs Tilly and Dinky, and my cat Magglio (named after the Tigers’ former player Magglio Ordonez). I have a Master’s/ Specialist Degree in Reading from Aquinas College, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE BOOKS! It is rare to spot me without a book and water bottle in hand. For fun, I love dancing and playing board games with my friends and of course reading! After school I help run the Disney musical program for students in grades 3rd-7th. This year we’re performing Aladdin at the end of March, and I’m super excited about it!
People often ask me why I commute so far to work here: I always tell them that I love DKS because this community has so much heart, and the staff is like family! I couldn’t imagine working anywhere else.

COUNT DAY: Tomorrow, Feb. 12 is count day! Please have all students in class all day unless they are sick. If your child is absent, please be sure to contact the school's office. Count day is important to the district because the state uses information to determine state funding for the district. Be Counted!

Secretary Spotlight: Tiffany Bever
Delton Kellogg Elementary
I have lived in Delton almost all of my life. I am a 3rd generation Panther, having many teachers my parents had and now working with teachers I had! Yes, Mrs. Wandell was my kindergarten teacher! I am excited to watch my kids grow up as 4th generation Panthers. I graduated in 2003 then moved to Kalamazoo, attending KVCC and WMU, receiving my Bachelors degree in 2008. I marched with the Western Michigan University's Bronco Marching Band in their Colorguard. I made captain my senior year. I even got to march on Michigan State's football field and Ford Field! I moved back to Delton and married my husband Rob in 2010 (a 2nd generation Panther). We have 4 kids who all are at DKES. I have been working at DK for 8 years and volunteer coaching the color guard in the DKHS marching band for 7 years. While working at DK, I substituted for teachers, paras, and in the office for 6 years. Even though I worked in all 3 buildings in many different roles, my heart has always been in the elementary. I found my permanent home that I love in the office when Cindy Glenn retired. I love DK because everyone puts our students first. We truly are a small town with a big heart that creates big opportunities for everyone!

Paraprofessional Spotlight: Autumn Hamlin
Delton Kellogg Elementary
I have worked for Delton Schools for almost 9 years now. I started out as a Title 1 para, then became a one on one, and the past 5 years I have worked with Tracy Webster in the Early Childhood Special Education classroom. I have a traveling husband who is currently in Pennsylvania for another 3 years. I am basically a single mom to 2 very outgoing teenage daughters. My girls keep me going and I absolutely love every stressful minute. Watching my girls play sports makes me super happy and super proud. Right now they are both in Middle School Basketball and Dead Frog Volleyball (my favorite). On the little bit of free time I get, I am often playing catch up on household chores. In the Summer, I work at Gilmore Car Museum and during the summer I actually get to relax a little bit. I moved back to Delton so my daughters could experience the small town love our community has. I am most proud to be a panther, because in our district we look out for one another and help each other out.

Mrs. Waller - 3rd Grade
Delton Kellogg Elementary
Hi, I’m Shasta Waller, and this is my 20th year teaching here in Delton. I spent my first 9 years teaching 4th grade, then I moved to 3rd grade where I’ve been ever since. One of my favorite things about working with my students is digging deep into the stories we read together and the wonderful conversations they inspire. I also have the best colleagues I could ever ask for. My husband, Clint, teaches high school science in Delton as well. We have three children; twin sons who are 10th graders, and a daughter, who is in 8th grade. We
school-of-choice them here because of the quality education and caring staff we have in Delton. They keep us busy, but we love attending their many events; track, band, theater, drumline, volleyball, competitive cheer, and piano. We have a cat, two guinea pigs, four chickens and the newest member of the family, our 9 week-old puppy, Ozzy. We love animals and nature. Before we were teachers, Clint and I both rehabilitated orphaned and injured animals. We’ve worked with birds, possums, rabbits, and even a fox! When I’m not teaching, I love reading, traveling, hiking, camping and spending time with family.

Teacher Spotlight:
Mrs. Pickett - 3rd grade
Delton Kellogg Elementary
Hi! I’m Natalie Pickett and this is my twentieth year teaching at DKES. I was fortunate to be placed in Delton for my teaching internship and fell in love with the staff, kids, and community. I started teaching special education preschool and kindergarten then moved to third grade where I have stayed with the exception of teaching second grade for two years. Third grade kiddos are my favorite. I have always joked that I can’t teach in higher grades because the kids will be taller than me!
I live in Otsego with my 6 year old “puppy” Joplin. I have three amazing daughters. My youngest daughter, Maya, just moved into her own apartment and is working at a daycare. My middle daughter, Hope, lives in Kona, Hawaii and is living her dreams. My oldest daughter is an angel in heaven.
I love traveling (to Hawaii of course!), reading, and spending time with family and friends. I am blessed with a profession that allows me to make a difference everyday and for children to make a difference in my life everyday. I learn from my students as much as I teach. I hope that I impact my students lives as much as they impact mine. It isn’t easy, but greatly rewarding. I can’t imagine doing anything else!

Teacher Spotlight!
Miss Stanton - 2nd grade Delton Kellogg Elementary
Hi there! My name is Ashley Stanton. I attended college at Central Michigan University and then moved to the greater Grand Rapids area and haven't wanted to leave. I am in my third year of teaching but this is my second year at Delton. Last year I worked with the second grade as a reading and math interventionist, but was lucky enough to get offered a second grade teaching position this year. I am a fur-mom to three animals. Two cats - Josie and Jagger and one GIANT dog Jethro, a Saint Bernard who is a handful. I have been with my boyfriend, Larz, for 4 years and we currently own a beautiful farm house together in Wayland. In my free time I enjoy camping and spending time outdoors, we just recently bought a camper so last summer was much more adventurous. When it is warm enough, I love to go swimming and visit my family up north near Traverse City as well. I fell in love with the Delton community instantly because it reminds me very much of my hometown where I grew up and went to school. The closeness of the community ensures that every child can get the help, love and care that they need to be successful. Who wouldn't be proud to be a teacher in a community that cares for their children the way we do?

Teacher Spotlight
Miss Boer - 3rd grade Delton Kellogg Elementary
Hello! My name is Meghan Boer. This is my second year
teaching 3rd grade at DKES. However, I am not new to the area. I grew up in the area and graduated from DKHS in 2012. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University, and decided to follow my heart back home. I currently live with my parents, my brother (houses are expensive) and our fur baby, Mia. I am honored to be able to teach at the school that I went to. I loved every minute of my schooling in Delton, and want the world to know how amazing it is. I truly love my job and coming to school every day. I went into teaching because I wanted to help children be as successful as possible, and to try to make the world a better place. My favorite part about teaching is when a student finally gets something that they have been working so hard on, and grow in tremendous ways. I also love that my students can make me smile and laugh every day, which is probably the best part of my job. After school, I spend my afternoons with
high school students in DKTAC. I participated in theater when I was in high school, and am proud to be able to continue to be a part of it now. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, and curling up with a great cup of coffee and a good book. In the summer, I enjoy kayaking, camping, and relaxing as much as possible.

Teacher Spotlight!
Sydney Nikitas - 2nd Grade Delton Kellogg Elementary

Hi there! I am Sydney, and this is my 2nd year teaching
2nd grade at Delton Kellogg. Prior to that, I had the opportunity to student teach in 4th grade with Ms. Bever. I graduated from Grand Valley State University, and will be returning this coming January to begin on my Masters in School Counseling. When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, crafting and DIYing, and traveling both near and far. I am recently engaged to my high school sweetheart, Garrett, so planning a wedding will likely become a hobby as well! I am so fortunate to now be able to teach in the same district where I attended elementary school — and even more fortunate to spend my days experiencing all the unpredictable, difficult, exciting, and rewarding moments of 2nd grade with my 24 sweet kiddos!

Teacher Spotlight!
Mrs. Kellam - 2nd grade Delton Kellogg Elementary
Hello! My name is Lisa Kellam. This is my 29th year
of teaching. Teaching has always been a passion. I have always wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. I taught fourth grade for 5 years at Fremont Public Schools and 12 years in fourth grade here at Delton Kellogg. This is my 12th year teaching second grade. Both grades have been fun to teach so I really don't have a favorite. I love to see the excitement in kids eyes as they learn and grow. My husband Tim and I live in Augusta. We have been married for 29 years this past July and have three wonderful children. Our oldest son, Ben, lives in Farmington Hills and works as a buyer for an automotive company. Our second son, Tyler, is finishing his last semester at Northern Michigan University in Marquette. Our daughter, Emma, is a freshman at KVCC. Tim and I both grew up in the area and both attended Galesburg-Augusta Schools. We lived in Muskegon for about seven years before deciding that we wanted to move back here and raise our kids near family. We recently added another Black lab to our family and I forgot how much a puppy keeps you busy. I love the qualities of a small town and feel blessed to be a part of such a caring community.

Teacher Spotlight!!
Mrs. Skinner - 1st Grade Delton Kellogg Elementary
Hello! I have been a teacher at Delton-Kellogg Elementary since 1993, taking a year off to stay home with my two daughters. I have taught a half of year in third grade as a long-term substitute and a full year as a long- term substitute in a fourth grade. Since then, I have had the opportunity to teach first grade for about 24 years. I absolutely love teaching first grade. I believe it is a year when so many students make such tremendous growth socially, emotionally, and academically. I love to watch them learn and grow. I enjoy building relationships with my students and continuing to have those relationships with the students as they grow up through school, and sometimes after they graduate. I have been with my wonderful husband, Ron, for 17 years. I have 2 daughters, 2 step- daughters, and 4 grandchildren, with another one on the way. Three of those grandbabies are boys and one a girl. The one coming soon is also a boy. Family and friends are a very important part of my life. I absolutely love living in this community! I love the small hometown feeling that Delton has to offer and to be a part of. I love it so much that I had the opportunity to attend Delton-Kellogg as a student from kindergarten all the way through graduation. Both of my daughters attended Delton-Kellogg. I left the Delton area long enough to attend college and receive my degree. I have been in the area my whole life and have no plans of leaving the area any time soon. I feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to work in the school and the community that I grew up in.
