Today, Swancreek Township joins communities across the nation in remembering September 11, 2001.

We honor the lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the many acts of courage, service and unity that followed.

May we continue to remember and honor their legacy.

While You’re at the Fulton County Fair, Stop In and See a Piece of Swancreek Township History!

Did you know the Fulton County Township Association building at the fairgrounds has deep roots right here in Swancreek Township?

The building dates back to the late 1800s, probably around 1880, and originally stood at the corner of Fulton County Road D and Swancreek Township Road 5 1. For many years, it served as Swan Creek District #10 School House, educating generations of local children.

When the school moved to a more modern facility, the building began a new chapter. In 1939, it became the home of the Swancreek Township Trustees and also served as one of the township’s voting precincts into the late 1950s.

In October 2001, the Swancreek Township Trustees gave the historic building to the Fulton County Historical Society. It was moved to the Fulton County Fairgrounds in January 2002, where it remains today, preserving a piece of our township’s history for future generations.

If you’re visiting the Fulton County Fair this week, stop by the Fulton County Township Association building, take a look around and see a little piece of Swancreek Township history for yourself.

From a one room schoolhouse, to a township hall, to the fairgrounds, this building has been part of our community for nearly 150 years!

September is Ohio Preparedness Month, a time to make sure your household is ready before an emergency happens. The Ohio Emergency Management Agency encourages families to create a plan that includes everyone in the household, including children and pets.

For Swancreek Township residents, now is a good time to sit down as a family and talk through what you would do during severe weather, a power outage, evacuation or other emergency.

A good family emergency plan should include:

• Everyone in your household: Make sure children, older adults, family members with special needs and pets are all part of the plan.
• Evacuation routes: Know how you would leave your home safely and where your family would go if you needed to evacuate.
• Safe shelter locations: Talk about where you would shelter during different types of emergencies.
• Emergency contacts: Keep important phone numbers written down in addition to storing them in your phone.
• Children’s preparedness: Make sure children know important phone numbers and understand who they should contact if family members become separated.
• A family conversation: Review the plan together so everyone knows what to do before an emergency occurs.

Ohio EMA specifically recommends including everyone in the household, knowing evacuation routes and shelter locations, and having emergency contacts available for both adults and children.

Preparedness does not have to be complicated. Taking a little time now to create and review your family’s plan can help everyone respond more confidently when an emergency happens.

Throughout September, Ohio Preparedness Month will also focus on emergency kits, family communication, youth preparedness and pet preparedness.
