June is PTSD Awareness Month.
Every day, our first responders answer calls that most people never see. Law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, dispatchers, coroners, and emergency management professionals often face difficult and traumatic situations while serving our communities.
While the physical dangers of the job are easy to recognize, the emotional and mental impacts are often unseen. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can affect anyone who has experienced or witnessed traumatic events, including those who dedicate their lives to helping others.
This month, we encourage everyone to recognize the importance of mental health, reduce the stigma surrounding PTSD, and support those who may be struggling. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
To all first responders: Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your commitment to our community. You are not alone, and your mental health matters.
