Delaware Avenue Complete Streets / Town of Bethlehem This project will improve the safety and accessibility of Delaware Avenue for everyone

Delaware Avenue is one of Bethlehem’s primary main streets, connecting the town to the City of Albany to the east and the more rural parts of Albany County to the west.

A little color is starting to show up on Delaware Ave.

The new stamped concrete is one of the details that will give the corridor some of its own Bethlehem character—and it's a nice reminder that this project is about more than just new pavement.

Next week brings the final major round of paving, with the top course going in overnight Thursday and Friday. We're getting there. Smooth ride ahead.

We're in the final big push! Next week brings the last round of milling and binder paving along Delaware Ave, with the final top course coming August 26-27. Expect slower traffic and lane closures—but we're getting very close to a smoother ride all the way through the corridor.

Check out this week's Smooth Ride Ahead update for the schedule and what to expect. Delaware Ave Weekly Newsletter Update #34 - https://mailchi.mp/812019a6613b/delaware-ave-weekly-newsletter-update-10608868

**A quick update on this week's milling & paving along Delaware Ave...**

If your drive home yesterday took longer than usual, you weren't alone. This week's paving work is taking place through one of the busiest sections of the corridor—between the CDTA Park & Ride and Burhans Pl. —so traffic delays are expected while crews complete this phase.

Here's what to expect over the next few days:

• Active construction from approximately **6:00 AM–6:00 PM**
• Lane closures with flaggers directing traffic
• Expect significantly slower travel times through the work zone—especially during the afternoon commute
• All businesses remain open and accessible, though driveway access may occasionally be shifted during active work

Milling and paving is one of the most disruptive parts of the project, but it's also one of the shortest. Crews work extended hours to complete as much roadway as possible in just a few days before moving on to the next phase.

**If your schedule allows, consider allowing a little extra travel time or choosing an alternate route through the area this week.**

Every pass of the paving machine brings another section of Delaware Ave closer to completion. We appreciate your patience as we work toward a smoother, safer corridor for everyone.

Smooth ride ahead

Not a Delaware Ave related issue - but shared to get the word out.

Wemple Road is closed at the Route 9W intersection by the Historic Heath Farm barn due to accelerated erosion along a culvert under the road. Traffic to/from the Soccerplex must now detour along Rte 9W, Clapper Rd and Weisheit Rd, and Wemple Rd south of the facility.

This detour adds about 9 minutes of travel time to and from the Soccerplex.

Using a $1,194,000 State grant, the Town has been working with CHA Engineering and NYS DOT to get design plans and permits in place for construction in 2027. The Town is now working with these partners to determine if the road can be temporarily stabilized and reopened quickly, or if the construction schedule can be accelerated to begin as soon as possible.
