Together, we will build trust through honest conversations that unite and strengthen our community. I’ve been a Bethlehem resident for 23 years, my wife Christine and I are raising our two daughters and two little pups here in Selkirk. I’m the proud son of Cuban refugees, and am the first Latino to ever be elected to the Bethlehem Town Board. As your town board member, I will bring a new energy an
d passion to town government. And, I am someone who believes that its better to get it right than to be RIGHT! My parents taught us the importance of standing up for what’s right and that we needed to give back as much as possible as a way to repay this great country that gave our family hope and opportunity. Like you, my wife and I choose to raise our family here in Bethlehem because of the truly amazing quality of life here. In no small part thanks to our neighbors, friends and family who volunteer countless hours at various community groups, organizations and our schools. Following in my mom’s footsteps, I too, found a passion to give back and have been an active member of our community for nearly two decades. In doing so I have built lasting relationships with so many great people that I never would have had the opportunity to get to know if we hadn’t volunteered. These relationships have shown me that despite our different life experiences, backgrounds and ideologies we all have one thing in common —Bethlehem, and how we want to make our community the best place to live, raise a family and/or to own and run a small business. In 2018 I was honored to be the recipient of the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce Community Spirit Award for my commitment to our community and extensive volunteerism — including, but not limited to, Bethlehem Opportunities Unlimited (BOU), playing an integral part of the First Night Bethlehem organizing committee and St. Thomas Church Pastoral Care Ministry. Recently, I have realized that volunteerism alone isn’t enough and that I can do more to serve. Our community needs a partner, someone who will bring people together and always put the best interest of our families over ones self-interest or politics. We all know positive and lasting change happens when we build coalitions — that includes people from every corner of town, families with children and empty nesters, young professionals to retirees as well as those from across the political spectrum. And despite all the social media noise and division being spread, I do truly believe we all have so much more in common than divides us — if we listen to one another with respect. As your town board member I’ll continue doing what I’ve been doing for two decades – rolling up my sleeves and working with, for, and alongside you to make Bethlehem a place we can all be proud to call home.
