The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has been in continuous operation since 1797 and currently serves an estimated 46,000 citizens spread thinly across its 1,468 square miles. Although there are no major cities in the county, it is traversed by two interstate highways (88 and 17). There are 10 villages and 19 towns in one of upstate New York’s most picturesque locations for cultural activities and outdoor sport and recreation attractions . In fact, it is estimated that our weekend population expands by 20,000 people who come to tour or visit their vacation/second homes throughout our lush, lake-abounding landscape. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is located in a state-of-the-art facility in the Public Safety Building at 280 Phoebe Lane, Delhi, New York and maintains a website at http://www.co.delaware.ny.us/departments/shrf/shrf.htm
to keep the public informed of its day-to-day operations. DuMond and the current Undersheriff Is Kim S. Each year the Office expands its capabilities. Most recent accomplishments include the reactivation of the Mounted Patrol and the establishment of a K-9 Division, as well as a School Resource Officer. The Sheriff’s Office, combined with its Corrections Division has an estimated staff of 108 employees who are assigned to its Administration, Civil, Corrections, Investigative, K-9 and Road Patrol Divisions.

PRESS RELEASE: MIGUEL A. DELGADO

September 8th, 2026

Delhi, NY- Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of a Staten Island resident on an arrest warrant issued by the Delaware County Family Court.

On Tuesday, September 8th, 2026, Investigators with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division received notification from NYPD-Staten Island that 49- year-old Miguel A. Delgado, of Staten Island, New York, was in custody at their Precinct on charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree, and Menacing 2nd degree.

Investigators say Delgado also had an active arrest warrant issued by the Delaware County Family Court for a violation of Article 10 of the Family Court Act, stemming from an investigation into child neglect.

Investigators later responded to the Precinct where Delgado was being held and extradited him back to the Delaware County for arraignment on the warrant.

Delgado was later arraigned at the Delaware County Central Arraignment Court where he was remanded without bail, pending further action by the Delaware County Family Court.

PRESS RELEASE: PORTER CRAWSON

September 8th, 2026

Hancock, NY– Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of a Hancock man relating to a burglary that occurred in the Town of Hancock.

On Tuesday, September 8th, 2026, Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies received a burglary complaint in the Town of Hancock, where during the course of the investigation it was discovered that two fi****ms, as well as other miscellaneous items had been stolen from a dwelling.

Deputies were assisted by members of the New York State Police, who located and took custody of the suspect, subsequently identified as 26-year-old Porter Crawson of Hancock, NY. Crawson was found to be in possession of the stolen fi****ms and other items reported stolen by the homeowner.

Deputies arrested and charged Crawson with Burglary in the 2nd degree, a class C felony, Criminal Trespass in the 1st degree, a class D felony, Criminal Possession of a Fi***rm, a class E felony, Grand Larceny in the 4th degree, a class E felony, Criminal Mischief in the 4th degree, a class A misdemeanor and Petit Larceny, a class A misdemeanor, all criminal offenses of the New York State Penal Law.

Crawson was processed and turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await centralized arraignment.

PRESS RELEASE: ISLAM MOHAMMAD

September 5th, 2026

Kortright, NY – Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of a Brooklyn, NY resident following a traffic stop on State Highway 23.

On Saturday afternoon, September 5th, 2026, while patrolling on State Highway 23 in the Town of Kortright, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle being operated at a high rate of speed. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver of the vehicle as 40-year-old Islam Mohammad of Brooklyn, NY. A routine check with the NYS DMV discovered that Mohammad's driver’s license was suspended.

Deputies subsequently arrested Mohammad, charging him with Reckless Driving and Aggravated Unlicensed Operator in the 3rd degree, both unclassified misdemeanors of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic law. In addition, Mohammad was also issued citations for Speed in 55-mph Zone and Unlicensed Operator, both violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. Mohammad was released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Kortright Court at a later date to answer the charges.

On September 11th, 2001, our nation endured an unimaginable attack that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people and that forever changed the essence of our country. We remember the innocent lives lost, the first responders who courageously ran toward danger, and the countless acts of sacrifice and heroism that followed.
Today, we pause to honor their memory, give thanks for their courage, and vow that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

We give a heartfelt thank you to the New York State Police for taking swift action to rescue 25 horses from an unimaginable fate. Your compassion, and commitment to doing the right thing made a tremendous difference for these animals. We are grateful for the NYSP and all of the agencies and organizations who worked together to give these horses a second chance.

PRESS RELEASE: STEVEN ODDO

September 1st, 2026

Delhi, NY- Today, Sheriff Craig S. Dumond announced the arrest of a Delaware County Correctional Facility incarcerated individual, following an investigation.

On September 1st, 2026, Investigators with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division were assigned to investigate a complaint reported by Correctional Facility Staff of an incarcerated individual who had damaged property within the facility on August 26th, 2026.

Subsequent investigation into the complaint revealed that 59-year-old Steven C. Oddo had intentionally damaged Delaware County Correctional Facility property, while he was incarcerated within the facility.

On September 1st, 2026, upon conclusion of their investigation, Investigators arrested Oddo on one count of Criminal Mischief in the 4th degree, a class A misdemeanor, in violation of the NYS Penal Law.

Oddo was processed and issued an appearance ticket directing him to appear at the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

PRESS RELEASE: DEANNA STEIN

September 3rd, 2026

Delhi, NY – Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of a Meredith resident following an investigation into a one-car motor vehicle accident.

On Thursday morning, September 3rd, 2026, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a one-car motor vehicle accident on Falls Mills Road in the Town of Delhi. Upon arrival on scene, Deputies observed a vehicle that had left the roadway and entered a ditch. Deputies made contact with the operator, who was identified as 55-year-old Deanna Stein of Meredith, NY.

Upon completion of the investigation, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested and charged Stein with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving while Intoxicated with a BAC greater than 0.08%, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC greater than 0.18%, all misdemeanors of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law, as well as, Moved from Lane Unsafely and Failure to Notify DMV of an address change, both violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Upon completion of arrest processing, Stein was released on appearance tickets and traffic tickets, returnable to the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

PRESS RELEASE: JASON COFFEY

August 30th, 2026

Walton, NY – Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of a Walton resident following an investigation into a violation of an Order of Protection.

On August 30th, 2026, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a complaint of an Order of Protection violation which occurred in the Village of Walton.

Upon conclusion of the investigation, it was found that 29-year-old Jason Coffey of Walton, NY, had intentionally violated a duly served and active Order of Protection which prohibited him from being near the protected person's home.

Deputies subsequently arrested and charged Coffey with one count of Criminal Contempt in the 2nd degree, a class A misdemeanor of the New York State Penal Law.

After arrest processing, Coffey was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await centralized arraignment court.
