Last week, healthcare for humans and animals came together at DA in an engaging and memorable learning experience. What started as an internship exploration for seniors interested in ultrasound and radiology turned into an unforgettable hands-on learning experience.
SUNY Delhi Licensed Veterinary Technician Bill Sherman (assisted by Melody Youngs) visited DA with a portable ultrasound machine and one of Bill’s bernese mountain dogs (Winnie), providing students with a unique hands-on demonstration. They gained valuable knowledge about ultrasound technology, including how ultrasound machines work, why they are used, and the important role they play in healthcare. The experience also highlighted the similarities between human and animal anatomy and physiology, giving students a broader perspective on medical imaging.
DCMO BOCES Work Experience Coordinator Christine McCall-Hopkins facilitated the visit as part of her work in the district through the Career Destinations program. “Helping students explore their career interests in ways they may never have considered is so important,” she said. “They deserve opportunities to discover that there are many avenues available to them when they are open to exploring new possibilities. Experiences like this broaden perspectives, spark curiosity, and help students envision exciting paths for their futures.”
