Thank you to Delaware City Schools for continuing to provide meeting highlights and updates for the community following Board of Education meetings.

One of the responsibilities of effective governance is helping ensure our community has access to information about district decisions, celebrations, planning efforts, and ongoing work across the schools. I appreciate the opportunity to continue learning alongside our community and engaging in these important conversations.

Some important topics from this meeting included:
• Recognition of student, staff, and district achievements
• Facilities planning and upcoming community engagement opportunities
• Adoption of a new K–5 math curriculum
• Discussion surrounding HB420 and the potential impact on school funding and continuing levies

I encourage community members to review the highlights, stay informed, and participate in upcoming engagement opportunities.

This page reflects my individual perspectives and experiences as a board member, not official board positions or district statements.

Looking forward to spending the next two days at the Ohio School Boards Association Board Leadership Institute as part of my continued commitment to learning and effective school board governance.

This year’s conference focuses on leadership, communication, collaboration, and navigating the challenges facing public education today.

Some of the sessions I’ll be attending include:

✔️ Democracy in Action: Legislative updates and advocacy for Ohio schools
✔️ Painting the District’s Financial Picture: Helping communities better understand school funding and finances
✔️ Partners in Progress: Building strong and sustainable community partnerships
✔️ Leading Together: Effective board relationships and governance
✔️ Bridging the Divide: Building relationships beyond party lines
✔️ Preparing for the Next 250: Buckeye Boys & Girls State and student civic leadership

I’m also looking forward to the opening keynote focused on bringing positivity, communication, and human connection into leadership roles.

I firmly believe that strong boards continue learning, listening, and growing. I’m grateful for the opportunity to connect with education leaders from across Ohio and bring back ideas that can support Delaware City Schools students, staff, families, and our community.

This is something to be proud of. The Momentum Award recognizes schools where students exceeded expected growth, meaning students made more progress than predicted over time. Congratulations to Hayes HS and Carlisle ES. Looking forward to recognizing this accomplishment at Monday’s board meeting.

Based on personal experiences, I know so much of what makes a school run smoothly happens because of strong assistant principals. Thank you for the care, leadership, and consistency you bring each day.

This is my personal perspective as an individual board member, not an official statement on behalf of the full Board of Education.

This week, we’re celebrating our amazing Assistant Principals who make a difference every single day! 🧡🖤

Join us in thanking them for their leadership and the positive impact they make for our students and staff.

🚀 A historic launch, and a powerful reminder of what students are capable of.

Today, NASA is preparing to launch Artemis II, the first crewed mission to travel around the Moon in more than 50 years. This 10-day mission marks a major step forward in deep space exploration and future plans to return humans to the lunar surface.

But what makes today even more meaningful is this…

These students from Delaware Hayes High School were finalists in NASA’s Artemis II App Challenge 👏

They didn’t just learn about space exploration, they contributed to it.

As part of the challenge, they designed an app to address real-world needs connected to the Artemis II mission, demonstrating creativity, problem-solving, and authentic application of STEM skills.

A huge shoutout to their teacher, Mrs Meyer, who led them through this process, guiding their teamwork, challenging their thinking, and stretching them to reach this level of excellence.

🎥 You can see their work here:

Moments like this matter.

Because while Artemis II is about pushing the boundaries of space, it is also about inspiring the next generation to imagine themselves as part of that future.

And clearly, that future is already taking shape right here in Delaware.

So proud of these students, their teacher, and the opportunities being created for students to do meaningful, authentic work.
