Today we say thank you to all the fire fighters on our departments and those who serve around us. Your passion for helping others and dedication to being a volunteer firefighter is so important to the safety of our community. Thank you for all that you do!

Today, we honor the brave.

Behind every alarm is a firefighter ready to run toward danger… when everyone else is running away.

They don’t ask who you are.
They don’t hesitate.
They just show up. Every single time.

Courage in the face of fear.
Honor in every action.
Sacrifice beyond words.

To all firefighters around the world, thank you for protecting lives, homes, and futures.

You are the reason many get a second chance.

We’re proud to share that we were awarded a $35,000 grant from the Rising Sun Regional Foundation in October 2025 to help fund critical equipment upgrades, including: 💧2,000 feet of new fire hose line on the engine, 🚒Upgraded dump tank system to aid in rural water shuttling on the tanker, 👨🏻‍🚒Newly added SCBA and seating modifications for the brush truck. The total project investment exceeded $53,000, with the DVFD covering the additional cost through locally raised funds. Over the past six months, our members have worked to install this equipment and complete training to make sure it's ready to use at any moment. We sincerely appreciate the Rising Sun Regional Foundation for its support in helping us continue to protect our community.

We’re incredibly grateful to have received a $2,500 grant from Decatur County REMC’s Operation Round-Up program last night!

These funds will go directly toward upgrading the lighting throughout our fire station, helping us improve energy efficiency while creating a brighter, safer space for our team and the community.

A huge thank you to the Decatur County REMC members who participate in Operation Round-Up. Your small monthly contributions truly add up and make a lasting impact right here at home. 💡🚒 Decatur County REMC

We are lucky that one of our EMT’s was able to attend this training. She learned some valuable knowledge to help in domestic violence situations. Thank you Safe Passage, Inc. for bringing the Gabby Petito Foundation to our area and offering such an impactful training opportunity.

Almost 200 participants joined us over two days for Unseen Advocates: The Vital Role of First Responders in Domestic Violence Advocacy.

A heartfelt thank you to Jim Schmidt and the Gabby Petito Foundation for delivering such a powerful and meaningful training. Your dedication to educating and empowering those who respond to domestic violence makes a lasting impact in our communities.

We are also incredibly grateful to our sponsors Ivy Tech, Rolling Pin Catering, and to all those who work every day responding to and supporting individuals experiencing domestic violence. Your commitment matters.

Special thanks to our presenting sponsors:
• John A. Hillenbrand Foundation
• William A. & Martha H. Hillenbrand Foundation
• Sentinel Wealth Strategies, LLC

As Jim often says:
“Let your passion be your purpose.”

Together, we continue working toward a coordinated response that brings help, healing, and hope. 💜

You may not know it but any leftover fish we have does not go to waste! We had the opportunity to deliver the uncooked fish left over from the fish fry to our friends at Red Wolf Sanctuary. They were very excited to start preparing portions for their animals and assured us the eagles and bears would enjoy this delicious snack as much as our customers did!
