Today, we’re highlighting information from the Great Lakes ADA Center and accessibility advocate Jennifer Skulski about why microphones matter at meetings and events.

Using a microphone is a simple way to support more accessible and inclusive communication. Clear audio can help people better hear and understand information, improve caption accuracy, and create a more welcoming experience for everyone.

When a microphone is available, it is an important communication tool that helps your audience fully participate.

Did you know DCBDD offers the iBill Talking Currency Reader?

Through a partnership with the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Bureau of Engraving and Printing, DCBDD distributes this free handheld device to help people who are blind or visually impaired identify U.S. currency quickly and accurately.

The iBill reader offers three ways to identify bills: voice, tones, or vibrations, making it a flexible tool that supports independence and confidence when handling money.

If you or someone you know is interested in receiving an iBill Talking Currency Reader, contact DCBDD at 740-201-3600 or visit https://www.dcbdd.org/ibill-money-identifier-program/
to learn more.

The iBill program is just one of the many ways DCBDD supports accessibility, independence, and connection to resources in our community.

“Our child’s pediatrician encouraged us to reach out for Early Intervention because of a speech delay and we’re so thankful we did. We started seeing progress in our child and feeling more confident in our parenting in just the first few visits!”

DCBDD’s Early Intervention program supports children under age 3 with developmental delays or disabilities by connecting families with evaluations, resources, and personalized support at no cost to the family. Services are designed to help children build important developmental skills while supporting families every step of the way.

“Our child went from being behind in reaching some milestones to being advanced for his age and we credit so much of that to the support we received through Early Intervention services. We were thrilled when our child achieved success through services but were sad when they ended because we absolutely adored the Early Intervention team we worked with!” - Melissa and Michael, Liam’s parents
