Do you support a student who is deafblind or has complex disabilities with emerging communication skills? Do you often wonder what you can do to support communication skill growth? Do you struggle to find tools and strategies?
Please join the Wisconsin Deafblind Technical Assistance Project (WDBTAP) for their annual Tips and Tools for Early Intervention. This training will be delivered in-person facilitated by Nancy Steele, a low incidence consultant with expertise in children with significant disabilities including deafblindness.
This training applies to anyone who is supporting a student who has emerging communication skills (under 24 months). Whether they are communicating using behaviors. Whether they are using symbolic communication or simple gestures. Anyone is welcome to attend.
Who: All Birth to 3 Program providers and anyone supporting students with emerging communication skills (developmental delays)
When: August 3 and 4, 2026
Where: Concourse Hotel in Madison
Cost: No cost for the training; hotel is at your own expense
The session will also highlight calendar systems as a strategy for promoting communication, concept development, and predictability. Calendar systems help early and emerging communicators learn what to expect throughout their day. They support the child to anticipate upcoming activities, encourage participation, and promote engagement in daily routines and experiences.
