Introducing the official 150th sculpture, 'Sesquicentennial'!

This sculpture was officially commemorated during this past weekend’s annual Sculpture & Blues Fest and serves as a reminder of Delano’s rich history, vibrant community, and strong future.

Designed by James and Ryan Pedersen, Sesquicentennial features four pillars of Delano’s history: the Crow River, agriculture, industry, and the railroad. The negative space between each element forms the number “150,” symbolizing Delano’s Sesquicentennial celebration.

At the base, a retaining wall showcases Leanna Wurzer’s paintings of the same themes, embedded with images of the 2,239 tiles decorated by community members over the past two years at 18 different events. Below that are Heritage Bricks engraved with the names of individuals, families, businesses, and organizations.

Thank you to the Delano Area Council for Arts and Culture and everyone who played a part in bringing this project to life!

You can check out the new sculpture in the Sculpture Park along Highway 12, adjacent to the pickleball courts in Riverway Park.

Be sure to follow Delano Sesquicentennial - 150th Celebration for more fun updates and events!
