*WARNING: Graphic footage of a water rescue*

This morning, at 10:15 a.m., deputies were flagged down for a swimmer in distress in the ocean in New Smyrna Beach. Deputy Gourley quickly located the victim in the water floating face down and pulled her to shore. The woman was unresponsive and without a pulse. Deputy Gourley and Deputy Manhart immediately began CPR and were able to revive the 68-year-old woman.

Beach Safety arrived on scene and continued life-saving measures. The victim was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

This serves as a powerful reminder that alert beachgoers, like those who spotted the woman and quickly alerted deputies, can make all the difference. Life-saving awards are forthcoming for the deputies involved for their heroic actions.

The road isn't worth raging over. Just get home safe and let us worry about the bad drivers. Don't end up like these 2 who each got arrested for pulling guns during road-rage incidents in Deltona.

We can't catch everything, but this year we have already made more than 20,000 traffic stops, issued 15,000+ citations and given about 3,200 warnings. Expect more traffic enforcement operations coming soon to a road near you.

This week, I was invited to speak at the opening ceremony for the 5th Annual Life Skills Boot Camp in Deltona. We had an insightful discussion about character development and the importance of being an engaged and active member of the community. Special thanks to Renae Rogers for allowing me to be a part of this great program!
