When something goes wrong, the DeLand Fire Department is there. You know us for responding to fires, providing emergency medical and paramedic-level care, and performing rescue operations when people are trapped or injured, including vehicle crashes and other technical emergencies. Our firefighters are prepared around the clock to protect lives and property and respond when our community needs us most. What you might not know is that we also inspect businesses and new construction for life safety, teach CPR and first aid to the community, bring fire prevention education into local schools, and oversee emergency management when disaster strikes. We also employ and manage a team of fire personnel who stay ready to help our community when it matters most. Our proposed budget for FY 26/27 is $12 million. An investment in the people, equipment, training, and readiness needed to keep DeLand safe.

A clear, visible house number can help them find you faster. Consider adding reflective numbers, keeping them well-lit at night, and making sure your mailbox matches your house.

Do what you can to not only help first responders, but so that first responders can help you the best they can.

At last night's commission meeting, the DeLand Fire Department celebrated the promotions of four dedicated firefighters.

Lt. Kyle Grace — A 3rd-generation firefighter with 9 years at DFD, Kyle holds certifications spanning Pump Operator, FLUSAR & Tower Rescue Technician, Fire Service Instructor, Haz-Mat Technician, and Fire Officer I & II. His badge was pinned by his father Brian, a retired Lieutenant with 29 years in the fire service.

Engineer Dan McGrath — 16+ years at DFD, certified pump operator with training in rope, trench, and confined space rescue. A member of the Honor Guard, playing bagpipes at ceremonies across Central Florida. His badge was pinned by his daughter Emma.

Engineer Julen Fernandez — 4 years at DFD, cleared paramedic in Volusia County, and 2025 Firefighter of the Year! His badge was pinned by his fiancée Marissa.

Engineer Ryan Kamine — A DeLand native and 5th-generation firefighter, Ryan has been with DFD for 4 years. He's now a paramedic, certified Pump Operator, and trained in confined space, rope, and trench rescue. His badge was pinned by his sister Megan.

Congratulations to our newly promoted firefighters!
